September reassembles the calendar that August dissolved. It opens on the Lido with the Venice Film Festival and in Queens with the US Open's second week; New York Fashion Week follows the tennis directly, then London, Milan and Paris in sequence through to early October. The yacht world's most important month runs from the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup at Porto Cervo through the Cannes Yachting Festival to the Monaco Yacht Show in the last week and Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez at the turn of the month. Goodwood's Revival, the Italian Grand Prix at Monza and the new Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid give motorsport its European autumn. Frieze Seoul and the Armory Show — now in late September — reopen the art fairs; the London Design Festival and Maison&Objet reopen design; the Salon Privé concours opens the English autumn; the UN General Assembly's high-level week makes Manhattan impassable for five days.
September is the month the Riviera has its second season: Cannes and Monaco are as busy in the last ten days as in late May, with a different crowd.

Two loops run at once. The fashion loop goes New York → London → Milan → Paris over four weeks. The yacht loop goes Porto Cervo → Cannes → Monaco → Saint-Tropez over three. Where they cross — Milan Fashion Week and the Monaco Yacht Show are a two-hour drive and the same week apart — is one of the year's great overlaps.

The Mediterranean's best month: warm sea, cooler air, fewer crowds outside the fixtures, though September storms on the Riviera are sudden and heavy. New York is warm into the tennis and cooler by fashion week. Venice can still be hot on the Lido. Goodwood Revival is a coat-and-tweed weekend by design.

The last weekend of September: the Monaco Yacht Show's closing days, Milan Fashion Week ending or Paris beginning, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez opening, and often a Grand Prix. The first weekend, with the US Open finals and the Venice awards, opens the month at the same intensity.
