A month page is evergreen: it describes what every October looks like on the international calendar, then lists the dated events of the next October with their status.
01Where the season is concentrated
October is the collector's autumn and the racing world's grand finale in Europe. Paris opens the month with the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on the first Sunday and closes Paris Fashion Week in the same days; London follows in the second week with Frieze London, Frieze Masters, PAD London and the auction houses' October sales — the densest art week in the British year; Paris answers a week later with Art Basel Paris in the Grand Palais. The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship plays St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns; the Singapore Grand Prix runs under lights and the United States and Mexico City Grands Prix follow in the Americas; the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the largest in-water show in the world, closes the month in Florida. The BFI London Film Festival, the Audrain Newport Concours, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez's first days and the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh fill in the edges.

04Important destinations
London and Paris, alternating week by week. Singapore and Austin for their race weekends; Fort Lauderdale for the boat show; Saint-Tropez for the first days; Newport and Trieste for a weekend each; St Andrews for the Dunhill.
05Geographic movement
A short shuttle between Paris and London — Arc, then Frieze, then Art Basel Paris — that many people do as a single fortnight. The yachts that were in Monaco in September are in Saint-Tropez in the first week and crossing to the Caribbean or heading to Fort Lauderdale by the end of the month. Formula 1 crosses from Asia to the Americas.
06Weather
London and Paris are autumnal: mild, wet, short days by the month's end. Singapore is hot and humid under the lights. Austin is warm. Fort Lauderdale is at the tail of the hurricane season and the start of its best weather. Saint-Tropez can still be summer in the first week.
07The most important weekends
The Frieze London weekend in the second week and the Art Basel Paris weekend in the fourth are the two poles; the first weekend, with the Arc and the Paris shows, is the third. In race years the Singapore or U.S. Grand Prix lands on one of them.
08Where the season moves next
November: the New York fall auction weeks and the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Paris Photo, the Geneva watch auctions and the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie, the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Breeders' Cup, the Hong Kong autumn sales, Abu Dhabi Art, Dubai Watch Week in odd years, the Hospices de Beaune auction — and the first stirrings of the Caribbean season.
