A month page is evergreen: it describes what every July looks like on the international calendar, then lists the dated events of the next July with their status.
01Where the season is concentrated
July begins in London and ends on the Mediterranean. The first fortnight is the English season at its height: Wimbledon's second week, Henley Royal Regatta, the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Paris haute couture across the Channel. The Open Championship in the third week is the month's great sporting pilgrimage, to whichever links course holds it. Then the Cowdray Gold Cup final and Glorious Goodwood close the month, by which time the crowd that follows the season has largely left the city for the coast.
On the Mediterranean, July is the first full month of the summer proper. Venice celebrates the Redentore with fireworks over the Bacino on the third weekend; Siena runs the first Palio on the 2nd; Ravello's festival plays on the terrace above the Amalfi Coast; Salzburg's festival opens in the last week; Monaco holds its Red Cross Gala and its show-jumping. Capri, Sardinia, Ibiza and Mykonos are full. In the United States, Saratoga's meet opens and the Hamptons and Newport begin their summer.

04Important destinations
London for the first half; Goodwood as a recurring pole; Venice for one weekend; Salzburg, Gstaad and Verbier for music; Capri, the Amalfi Coast, Costa Smeralda, Ibiza, Mallorca and Mykonos as the places the season has moved to. Saratoga Springs and the Hamptons carry the American summer.
05Geographic movement
South. The month begins with the English fixtures and ends with the calendar scattered along the Mediterranean coast and in the Alpine music towns. The last English fixture of note is Glorious Goodwood; after it the season does not reconvene in London until Frieze in October.
06Weather
The Mediterranean is hot and dry; sea temperatures peak in August but July is already warm enough for the islands to be full. London is at its warmest; Wimbledon and Henley have had heatwave years. The Open is famously weather-dependent — wind and rain are part of its identity. Alpine festivals are mild by day, cool at night.
07The most important weekends
Wimbledon finals weekend, which in most years also carries Henley's finals and the Goodwood Festival of Speed or the British Grand Prix. The Open weekend in the third week. The Redentore weekend in Venice for the Mediterranean.
08Where the season moves next
August is the quietest month for events and the busiest for places: the Mediterranean and the Alps fill without a calendar, and the few fixtures — Monterey Car Week and Pebble Beach, the Hampton Classic, the second Palio, Cowes Week, Salzburg — are the exceptions. Venice's film festival at the end of the month and the US Open open the autumn.
