01Where the season is concentrated
April is when the European spring season starts in earnest and the collector, the watch trade and the design world each have their defining week. Watches and Wonders fills Geneva at the start of the month; Salone del Mobile turns Milan into the largest design exhibition in the world for six days in the middle of it; the Monte-Carlo Masters opens the European clay season above the Mediterranean; Venice hosts the opening of its Biennale in even years and the Architecture Biennale in odd ones, drawing the art world to the lagoon for a preview week in May but with the city already filling in April. Augusta holds the Masters in the second week, the one golf tournament with a social calendar of its own.
The Caribbean season closes with Les Voiles de Saint-Barth and Antigua Sailing Week; the Mediterranean yacht season opens in Palma. The U.S. Open Polo Championship in Wellington closes the Florida winter. Goodwood's Members' Meeting opens the English motoring year.

04Important destinations
Geneva, Monaco and Milan carry the month in Europe; Augusta carries the United States for a week. St. Barts and Antigua have their last busy weeks; Palma and Ibiza (its opening parties begin at the end of the month) their first. Madrid has its tennis; Venice begins to fill.
05Geographic movement
A concentration: from the scattered March calendar, everything pulls toward a triangle of Geneva, Monaco and Milan, each roughly two weeks apart. Yachts begin their Atlantic crossings east after the Caribbean regattas. The English season's first fixtures appear at Goodwood and Badminton in late April and early May.
06Weather
Geneva and Milan are cool and changeable; Monaco is mild with a real chance of rain on the clay. Augusta is at its most photogenic, with azaleas timed to the tournament. The Caribbean enters the shoulder season; Palma is pleasant but the sea is still cold.
07The most important weekends
The Masters weekend, which usually coincides with the closing days of Watches and Wonders or the opening of the Monte-Carlo Masters. The Salone del Mobile weekend in the middle of the month brings Milan its densest days of the year outside fashion week.
08Where the season moves next
May is the busiest month of the calendar: the Kentucky Derby, the Met Gala, Frieze New York and the New York sale weeks, Cannes, the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, the Venice Biennale preview, Chelsea, Miami's Grand Prix, Villa d'Este on Lake Como — and, at the very end or in the first days of June, the Monaco Grand Prix itself.
