01Où la saison est concentrée
March is the month the international calendar becomes truly international. The collector's year gets its two great early fairs — TEFAF in Maastricht, for old masters and objects, and Art Basel Hong Kong, for the Asian market — a fortnight apart. Dubai stages its World Cup racing night at Meydan on the last Saturday and, in the same weeks, the boat show and Art Dubai. The Caribbean season reaches its sailing climax with the St. Barths Bucket Regatta, when the largest sailing yachts in the world race off Gustavia. In the United States the tennis swing runs through Indian Wells and Miami; the Academy Awards close the film awards season; Cheltenham gives Britain its four days of jump racing.
The Alps are still open but the crowd thins after mid-month; Palm Beach's season winds down as Miami's rises. The Players Championship and the run-up to the Masters bring the golf year into view.

A long eastward swing for collectors — Maastricht, then Hong Kong — while the yacht world is in the Caribbean and the Gulf simultaneously. By the end of the month attention has turned toward April's concentration in Europe: Geneva's watch fair, the Monte-Carlo Masters and Salone del Mobile are all within weeks.

Hong Kong is humid and mild; Dubai is at the end of its comfortable season, with the World Cup evening still pleasant; St. Barts has its steadiest trade winds, which is why the Bucket is held now. Maastricht is cold and grey. Indian Wells is warm desert spring; Miami is dry season at its best.
07Les week-ends les plus importants
The last weekend of March, with the Dubai World Cup on Saturday night and, in most years, Art Basel Hong Kong just closed and the Bucket Regatta a week past. The middle weekend, when TEFAF opens and Cheltenham has just finished, is the European equivalent.
08Où la saison se déplace ensuite
April concentrates in Europe: Watches and Wonders in Geneva, the Monte-Carlo Masters, Salone del Mobile in Milan, and, across the Atlantic, the Masters at Augusta. The Alps close, the Caribbean winds down after Les Voiles de Saint-Barth and Antigua Sailing Week, and the Riviera opens.
