The winter season runs on altitude and latitude rather than on a single coast. In January the calendar splits three ways: the Alps for snow, Florida and the Gulf for sun, and Melbourne for the first tennis major of the year. The Alps come first. Davos opens the working year in the third week of January, Wengen and Kitzbühel run the two classic downhills on consecutive weekends, and St. Moritz stages polo on the frozen lake at the end of the month before White Turf takes over the same ice on the Sundays of February. The counter-season sits in Palm Beach, where the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington runs from early January to the end of March, and in Dubai, whose most comfortable weeks fall in exactly this stretch.
Fashion and film supply the second layer. Pitti Uomo in Florence and the men's shows in Milan and Paris open January; the couture shows follow in the last week of the month. Film runs from the Golden Globes in early January through Sundance, the Berlinale in February and the BAFTA ceremony, and the awards run keeps Los Angeles occupied until the Oscars in March. Frieze Los Angeles sits in the same stretch, which is why the city has a second art week to go with its film weeks.

January is the one month in which the season has no single center, so the useful way to read it is as two lines that run in parallel. The mountain line has a fixed order: the Lauberhorn at Wengen in mid-January, the Hahnenkamm at Kitzbühel the following weekend, Davos overlapping both, then the Snow Polo World Cup on the St. Moritz lake in the last days of the month and White Turf on the February Sundays that follow. The Sommets Musicaux in Gstaad fill the same weeks with chamber music in the village churches. Aspen's turn is the Winter X Games at the end of January, and Sundance falls in the same fortnight: its last Park City edition was in January 2026, and from 2027 it is held in Boulder, Colorado.
The warm-weather line is steadier. Palm Beach's equestrian season is a twelve-week fixture rather than an event; Cavallino Classic brings the Ferrari world to Florida in the second half of January; the Palm Beach Show fills the convention center in February; Miami adds its boat show in the middle of the month and the South Beach Wine & Food Festival a week later. Melbourne holds the second half of January with the Australian Open and hands the tennis year to Indian Wells in March.
By late February the calendar has tightened toward Europe again. The Vienna Opera Ball falls on the Thursday before Ash Wednesday, the Venice Carnival ends on Shrove Tuesday, and the BAFTAs and the Berlinale share the month's third weekend. The spring season begins, in practice, with Cheltenham and TEFAF in March.

The Alpine resorts are in deep winter: short days, reliable snow at altitude, and temperatures well below freezing at night in the Engadin and the Tyrol. The lake at St. Moritz is only used for polo and racing once the ice has been measured, and in warm winters events have been shortened or moved, so check the organizer's notices in the week before. Palm Beach and Miami are in their dry season, with warm afternoons and cool evenings, and this is the reason the equestrian and boat-show calendars sit here. Dubai is mild and dry, and the Gulf's outdoor season is at its best. Melbourne is in high summer, and the Australian Open operates a published heat policy for a reason. Los Angeles is in its rainy months, which rarely matters for indoor ceremonies but can for outdoor Frieze weekends.

March opens the spring season on three fronts: Cheltenham and TEFAF Maastricht in the second and third weeks, the Bal de la Rose in Monaco, the St. Barths Bucket in the Caribbean, and the Dubai World Cup on the last Saturday of the month. Racing then returns to the United States for the Masters in April, and Geneva's Watches and Wonders opens the watch year in the same weeks. The mountain line ends with the Engadin Skimarathon in mid-March and the Courchevel fireworks festival; after that the snow crowd is in Palm Beach for the end of the equestrian season or already in Monaco for the Masters.
