The Riviera has two seasons a year and both are on the calendar. The first runs from the Cannes Film Festival in the second half of May through the Monaco Grand Prix in the first week of June, the Rolex Giraglia from Saint-Tropez in the middle of the month, Cannes Lions the week after, the Longines Global Champions Tour's Monaco leg on the Port Hercule quay and the Monaco Red Cross Gala in July. The second runs through the last weeks of September: the Cannes Yachting Festival, the Monaco Yacht Show and the Régates Royales in consecutive weeks, then Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez into the first days of October. Between the two, in July and August, the coast is full and the calendar is empty, which is the Riviera's oldest arrangement.
The coast that matters for the season is short: Cannes to Menton, with Saint-Tropez as the outlier to the west that the yachts reach in an afternoon. Monaco is its center in every sense, with the Bal de la Rose in March and the Monte-Carlo Masters in April as the shoulder-season fixtures that open the year before the film festival does.

The Riviera's year begins in Monaco in March with the Bal de la Rose and in April with the Monte-Carlo Masters, but the season proper opens when the Palais des Festivals raises its screens in the second week of May. Cannes runs twelve days; the yachts moored off the Croisette move east along the coast for the Grand Prix, which since 2026 has been in the first week of June, and the harbor at Monaco is at its fullest on race weekend. The Rolex Giraglia's inshore days in Saint-Tropez and the offshore race to Genoa via the Giraglia rock follow in mid-June; Cannes Lions brings the advertising world to the Palais the following week; the show jumping on the quay in Monaco and the Red Cross Gala in the Salle des Étoiles are the last fixtures before the coast turns to summer.
July and August have no events of consequence and the highest occupancy of the year. Saint-Tropez's harbor front, the beaches at Pampelonne, the Cap d'Antibes and the Monaco waterfront are full; the traffic on the coast road is the season's real constraint. The yachts head to Sardinia, Corsica and the Italian coast in August and are back by the second week of September.
September is the second season and, for many, the better one. The Cannes Yachting Festival in the Vieux Port and Port Canto opens it in the second week; the Monaco Yacht Show in Port Hercule takes the fourth week; the Régates Royales in Cannes and then Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, ending in the first days of October, are the racing coda, with classic yachts and modern maxis in the same bay. After Les Voiles the boats leave for the yards or the Atlantic crossing, and the coast is quiet until March.

May on the Riviera is warm and can be wet; Cannes has had cold festivals and umbrellas on the red carpet. June is the first dependable month, hot by midday and comfortable at night, and the Grand Prix has been run in rain and in heat within a few years of each other. July and August are hot and dry, with the sea at its warmest and the mistral the only interruption, capable of closing the harbors and beaches for two or three days at a time. September is the month the coast is best: the sea still warm, the heat gone, the light lower, and the possibility of the autumn storms that have flooded the Monaco Yacht Show tents. October is mild and the season's last week at Saint-Tropez is often sailed in a good breeze.

From Les Voiles the yachting calendar goes to Fort Lauderdale at the end of October and across the Atlantic to Antigua and St. Barts in December. The Riviera's crowd is in Paris for Art Basel Paris in October, in London for Frieze, or in the Alps in December. Monaco itself returns to the calendar with the Bal de la Rose in March and the Masters in April, and the film festival announces its dates for the following May long before that.
