Entry is open to registered classic and modern yachts meeting the class rules published by the Yacht Club de Cannes and, where applicable, the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. There is no admission charge to watch from the Croisette or the harbor, and no public ticket, since the racing itself is entirely on open water.

The Yacht Club de Cannes has run the regatta since 1979, and the organizer's own count put the 2026 edition at the 48th. Its inclusion in the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge from 2005 connected it to a wider circuit of classic-yacht regattas around the Mediterranean, a partnership that has shaped the modern event's identity as much as its own history has. Cannes's own yachting infrastructure — the Vieux Port, the yacht club, and a harbor that has hosted racing for well over a century — long predates the Régates Royales themselves.
