Four April days of tastings, seminars and chefs' dinners staged entirely inside one Californian golf resort, as a fundraiser for its foundation.
Pebble Beach Food & Wine happens on the grounds of a single property. Every one of its fifty-odd events sits somewhere inside Pebble Beach Resorts — a seminar in the Library at The Lodge, a boardroom tasting at Casa Palmero, an opening-night walk-around at The Inn at Spanish Bay, a tent on the Special Events Field — which makes it the most contained festival of its size in the United States and the reason its logistics work. Over 150 chefs and over 150 wine and spirits producers take part across four days.
The programme divides cleanly. Wine and spirit seminars are small, seated and subject-specific, often a single producer or a single category, and they sell out first. Walk-around tastings are the large evening events. Dining Experiences are seated dinners cooked by named chefs. The Tasting Pavilion, the festival's centerpiece, runs on the Saturday and Sunday afternoons with tiered entry times — VIP first, then an intermediate sponsor tier, then general admission. There is also a golf invitational on the opening Thursday and a separate trade programme.
The festival belongs to the Pebble Beach Company Foundation, the resort's charitable arm, which directs proceeds to education programmes in Monterey County. One detail to know before booking: every event is strictly 21 and over, with no exception for infants, which rules the festival out as a family trip.
01Pourquoi c'est important
The Monterey Peninsula in April is the quiet half of its year — the car weeks come in August — and Pebble Beach Food & Wine is what fills it. For the American wine trade it is a useful room, smaller and more seated than Aspen in June, with a seminar programme that goes deeper into single producers than a festival format usually allows. In our reading what distinguishes it is the containment: because the resort owns the venues, the hotel, the golf course and the festival, the week runs with a precision that open-city festivals cannot match, and the trade-off is that it feels like a resort programme rather than a town's week. The charitable structure is real rather than decorative — the Foundation is the host, not a beneficiary attached afterward.
02La semaine environnante
April on the Monterey Peninsula is cool, green and uncrowded, and the festival does not spill into Carmel or Monterey the way the August car weeks do — it stays inside the resort gates. What changes outside is hotel demand across the peninsula and the Highway 1 traffic at the 17-Mile Drive gates. Carmel-by-the-Sea's restaurants pick up the overflow in the evenings, and the golf courses are busy with festival guests. For anyone not attending, the week is barely visible.
03Quand arriver
Arrive Wednesday. The seminars start early on the Thursday and the opening walk-around is that evening; the Tasting Pavilion's two afternoons are the weekend. Sunday evening is the natural end, though a Monday departure buys an uncrowded morning on the coast and avoids the Bay Area traffic.
04Où séjourner
Inside the gates is the obvious answer and the organizer states that a ticket makes you eligible to book a room at the resort, through its own reservations line; The Lodge and The Inn at Spanish Bay are the two main houses and are walking distance or a short shuttle from most events. Carmel-by-the-Sea is five to ten minutes away and has far more supply, more restaurants and lower rates; Monterey and Pacific Grove are the next ring out. Lodging at the resort is not required to attend, which the FAQ says explicitly.
05Accès et hospitalité
Everything is sold as an individual ticket to an individual event rather than as a festival pass, with an age limit of 21 and over enforced by ID at every door. The Tasting Pavilion sells tiered entry — a VIP time, a sponsor access-pass time and a general admission time, each about forty-five minutes apart — and seminars and seated dinners sell in small numbers and sell out early. No prices are quoted in this record because we did not retrieve the ticketing pages. There is a separate trade programme, presented by a named sponsor and opening with an industry welcome on the Thursday. A volunteer programme exists and the organizer said 2027 details would follow. Brand involvement is extensive and visible in the event names themselves.
06Où se déroule l'activité sociale
The Tasting Pavilion on the Special Events Field for the two weekend afternoons, and the terrace and bars at The Lodge for everything else — the resort's public rooms are where the festival congregates between events. The Inn at Spanish Bay's terrace carries the opening night. Outside the gates, the restaurants and tasting rooms of Carmel-by-the-Sea take the late evening, and the drive along 17-Mile Drive between venues is itself part of how the weekend is spent.

09Historique
The festival was founded in 2008 by two Monterey-area entrepreneurs, who built it around a relationship with a small group of prominent American chefs and ran it through their own company for its first decade. It did not take place in 2020 or 2021. When it returned, the Pebble Beach Company Foundation had taken it on directly, which changed its character from an independently promoted festival staged at a resort into the resort's own event. The edition count reflects the interruptions: April 2026 was billed as the fifteenth year, not the nineteenth. The Foundation has since added a second, smaller autumn event, Whiskey & Fire, held at Pebble Beach on 30 October 2026.
10Qui s'y trouve
American wine and spirits producers and their distributors; sommeliers, beverage directors and restaurant buyers on the trade programme; chefs on the programme and in the audience; resort guests and golf members; and a substantial consumer audience, much of it from northern California, that buys individual seminars and dinners rather than a whole weekend.
