Paris goes last, and the order is the point. New York, London and Milan show first; by the time the calendar reaches Paris the season's arguments have already been made once, and the houses with the largest budgets and the most to lose answer them. The Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode sets the calendar and decides who is on it, which makes a Paris slot the single most contested piece of scheduling in the industry. The autumn/winter 2026-2027 edition in March ran nine days and carried 68 runway shows and 32 presentations, a shape that has been stable for several seasons.

There is no central venue and there has not been one for years. Shows are staged wherever a house can get a permit: the Grand Palais and its temporary structures, the Palais de Tokyo, the Carrousel du Louvre, tents in the Tuileries and the Cour Carree, the Musee Rodin, school gymnasia, warehouses in the nineteenth arrondissement, and a great many hotels particuliers whose courtyards are invisible from the street. Guests move between them by car, which is why the week's real texture is traffic: a twenty-minute show followed by forty minutes in a Mercedes van crossing the Seine.

The federation runs two things alongside the shows that matter to anyone trying to understand the week. SPHERE, its showroom for emerging labels, takes over the Palais de Tokyo for the back half of the season and is where buyers see the brands that are not yet on the runway calendar; for spring/summer 2027 it runs September 30 to October 6. And the official calendar carries an events column as well as a show column, which is where the brand exhibitions, book launches and the L'Oreal Paris public runway on the opening night appear. Those are the parts of the week that admit people who are not buyers or press.

01Lý do quan trọng

Paris is where the global wholesale order is finally placed and where the season's editorial verdict is fixed. The concentration of commercial weight is simply greater than anywhere else on the calendar: the largest French and Italian houses show here rather than at home, the major American and Japanese labels have moved here over the past two decades, and the department store and multi-brand buyers who skipped a city earlier in the month do not skip Paris. A designer appointment at a Paris house is industry news in a way that the same appointment elsewhere is not.

In our reading, the federation's gatekeeping is the mechanism that keeps it that way. The calendar is not a listing service; being admitted to it, and being given a good hour on a good day, is a judgment passed by an institution that also controls the haute couture appellation. That produces the week's characteristic atmosphere, which is less festive than Milan and far less public than London: a lot of people who already know one another, moving quickly, in traffic.

02Tuần lễ xung quanh sự kiện

Paris in the first week of October is close to its annual peak of demand. The fashion week ends on a Tuesday; Art Basel Paris opens at the Grand Palais three weeks later, Paris Photo follows in November, and the autumn auction season runs through both, so the city's hotel market barely exhales between late September and mid-November. The March edition is gentler, though it lands in the same fortnight as the Salon du Livre and the start of the spring exhibition season.

Inside the week, the visible change is vehicular. Show venues are permitted one at a time and the police close short stretches of street around them; the Place de la Concorde, the Tuileries gates, the quais around the Musee d'Orsay and the approaches to the Grand Palais are the regular pinch points. Restaurants in the first, second, third and eighth arrondissements are committed to house dinners from the Wednesday. The museums lean into it: the Palais Galliera, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs and the Fondation Azzedine Alaia programme fashion exhibitions to coincide, and those are ticketed and open to anyone. The CFDA also stages its Americans in Paris showcase during the spring/summer edition, on October 3 and 4 in 2026.

03Thời điểm đến

Buyers arrive for the second half. The first three days carry the emerging and mid-size labels and the appointments that have to be made before the large houses absorb everyone's attention; the final weekend and the closing Monday and Tuesday hold the biggest names, which is why a buyer's week runs Wednesday to Tuesday and a press week runs the full nine days. Anyone coming for the city rather than the calendar should arrive after it finishes: the Wednesday after the closing show is the first day Paris feels normal, and hotel rates drop noticeably.

04Nơi lưu trú

The first, second and eighth arrondissements put you closest to the largest share of venues and to the showroom district around the Place des Victoires and the rue Saint-Honore; the Ritz on the Place Vendome and the Crillon on the Concorde are the landmarks of that geography rather than suggestions. The Marais and the third arrondissement suit anyone whose week is weighted toward younger labels and the showrooms in the Haut Marais. Saint-Germain and the sixth are quieter and a reliable twenty minutes from everything by car, which during fashion week means forty. The tenth and eleventh are where most of the industry under thirty-five actually sleeps. Rooms are the binding constraint in late September: the week overlaps the end of the tourist season and the start of the business-travel season, and central Paris is effectively full.

05Tiếp cận và tiếp đón

Runway shows are by invitation only. Invitations are issued by the houses, not by the federation, and there is no mechanism by which a member of the public can buy a seat; the FHCM's role is accreditation, which it grants to press and to buyers on application ahead of each season. The federation publishes the provisional and then the final calendar on its own site, free to read, which is the single most useful document of the week and the only reliable guide to what is happening when. SPHERE's physical showroom is for accredited buyers, with a digital version by invitation. The events column of the official calendar is where publicly accessible items appear, including brand exhibitions and the L'Oreal Paris runway that opens the spring/summer edition on the evening of September 28, 2026.

06Nơi diễn ra các hoạt động giao lưu

The week's public crossroads are the pavements outside the venues, which during Paris fashion week become a genuine spectacle in their own right: the street-style photographers and the crowds who come to watch arrivals gather outside the Grand Palais, the Tuileries entrances, the Palais de Tokyo and the Musee Rodin, and standing there costs nothing. In the evenings the activity concentrates in the first and eighth arrondissements around the Place Vendome, the rue Saint-Honore and the avenue Montaigne, and in the Haut Marais around the rue de Turenne and the rue Charlot, where the younger end of the industry eats. The cafe terraces of the Palais-Royal gardens and the Cafe de Flore and Les Deux Magots in Saint-Germain are the dependable daytime meeting points. Brand dinners and after-parties are private and are not described here.

07Hướng dẫn di chuyển

Hàng không thương mạiCharles de Gaulle (CDG) is the long-haul gateway, thirty to seventy minutes from the centre depending on traffic, with the RER B reaching the Chatelet in about thirty-five minutes. Orly (ORY) handles most domestic and short-haul European traffic and is closer to the Left Bank.
Đường sắtParis is the best-connected rail city in Europe for this purpose: Eurostar from London St Pancras to Gare du Nord in about two and a quarter hours, Thalys from Brussels and Amsterdam, TGV from Milan and Geneva, and the TGV inOui network from the rest of France. During fashion week the London and Milan trains carry a large part of the industry.
Xe hơiA car with a driver is how most of the week is actually done, and traffic is the cost. The Boulevard Peripherique and the quais are slow from mid-morning; the central arrondissements are increasingly restricted to through traffic. Parking near venues is suspended when permits are issued.
hàng không tư nhânParis-Le Bourget is Europe's busiest business-aviation airport and is twenty minutes from the centre outside peak hours. Slots and parking tighten in the final days of the week.
Trực thăngParis-Issy-les-Moulineaux heliport handles on-demand transfers; helicopter movements over central Paris are tightly restricted and this is not a practical way to move within the city.

08Thông tin thực tiễn

Trang phụcThere is no code and the clothes are the work. Inside the shows the register runs from head-to-toe house looks on the front row to flat shoes and a good coat on everyone who has six appointments that day; the people who look most comfortable are the buyers. Paris in early October is cool and often wet and in March it is colder, and the week involves long periods standing on pavements, so the honest requirements are a coat you can be photographed in and shoes you can walk in. Evening house dinners lean formal.
Thời tiếtLate September and early October in Paris bring daytime highs usually in the high teens Celsius, cool evenings and frequent rain; the March edition is colder, often between 8 and 14 degrees, with a real chance of wind and sleet. No station normals were sourced for this record.
Di chuyển trong khu vựcThe Metro is far quicker than a car for most cross-city journeys during the week, and lines 1, 9 and 14 cover the majority of venues. Street closures around show sites are issued per event and are not published centrally, so allow an hour between appointments in different arrondissements. Taxis and ride-hailing are scarce between 18:00 and 21:00 when several shows finish together.
Khách sạnCentral Paris sells out for the late-September edition and rates rise sharply; the March edition is easier but still tight. Houses and agencies block large numbers of rooms in the first, second and eighth arrondissements months ahead, and minimum-stay requirements are common. Book by June for a late-September stay.
Nhà hàngPrivate dining rooms in the central arrondissements are committed for the week well in advance, and the handful of restaurants the industry has adopted are effectively closed to walk-ins. Lunch is far easier than dinner. The Haut Marais and the tenth arrondissement hold availability longest.
Thời điểm đặt chỗHotels three to four months ahead for late September, six to eight weeks for March. Restaurant tables in the central arrondissements three to four weeks ahead, longer for a private room. Press and buyer accreditation opens roughly six weeks before each season and closes well before it starts.
VéNo tickets are sold. Runway access is by house invitation; professional access is by FHCM accreditation. The official calendar is published free on fhcm.paris and anyone can read it. Publicly accessible items during the week - museum exhibitions, brand exhibitions, the L'Oreal Paris opening-night runway - are listed in the calendar's events column and are ticketed or free according to their own organizers.
Tiếp đónThe federation sells no hospitality. What exists is house hospitality: the seating plan, the showroom appointment and the dinner, all allocated by the houses to their own buyers, press and clients. Partner brands operate lounges and services around the calendar rather than hospitality packages. No prices are published anywhere in this structure.

09Lịch sử

The institutional roots run to 1868 and the founding of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, the body that first wrote down what couture was and who could claim it. Ready-to-wear arrived inside that structure slowly. The event usually identified as the first Paris Fashion Week was staged in October 1973, when the Federation francaise de la couture organized a joint French and American showing at Versailles to raise money for the palace's restoration; the calendar as a recurring, federation-run fixture dates from that decade.

Two later shifts made the modern week. The first was the arrival of non-French houses on the Paris calendar in the 1980s and 1990s, which turned a national showcase into the international finish line. The second was the abandonment of a central venue: once the Carrousel du Louvre stopped holding the majority of shows, the week dispersed into the city, and the choice of building became part of each house's statement. The federation reorganized under its present name in 2017, bringing couture, womenswear and menswear under one body.

10Ai có mặt ở đây

House executives, designers and their studios; department store, multi-brand and e-commerce buyers, who make up the largest professional contingent; magazine and newspaper editors and critics; public relations and casting agencies; photographers, stylists and models and the agencies that place them; textile and manufacturing suppliers working the showrooms; and the content creators whose invitations have become a negotiated part of a house's marketing budget. The crowd outside the venues is a mix of locals, students from the Paris fashion schools and visitors who came for the spectacle.
