New York Fashion Week

· Autumn/Winter 2027 Previsto · No single venue: the Official Schedule is staged across Manhattan and Brooklyn, with shows streamed live from 30 Rockefeller Plaza

The week that opens the womenswear cycle: around seventy shows and presentations on the CFDA's Official Schedule, twice a year.

Fechas · Autumn/Winter 2027 PrevistoNot yet published by the CFDA. New York opens the womenswear cycle and its dates are set back from the three European weeks, which are already fixed for 2027: London in the third week of February, Milan 23 February to 1 March, Paris 1 to 9 March. Recent February editions have run six days in the second week of the month - February 11-16 in 2026, February 6-11 in 2025, February 9-14 in 2024 - closing two to three days before London opens, which places 2027 on or about February 10 to 15. The CFDA normally confirms the dates three to five months ahead. · Spring/Summer 2028 PrevistoNot yet published by the CFDA. Milan has fixed 21 to 27 September 2027 and Paris 27 September to 5 October 2027; on the pattern of the past four years New York runs six days closing two to three days before London, which places it on or about September 9 to 14, 2027.

Going first shapes everything about this week. The Official Schedule is set by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which has owned the Fashion Calendar since 2014 and is the sole organizer of the week; for September 2026 the preliminary schedule carried 70 runway shows and designer presentations across six days, with more collections shown by appointment and digitally. Because it opens the cycle, New York is where the season's commercial temperature is first taken, and where American wholesale accounts do the bulk of their looking before the European weeks absorb the rest of the month.

There has been no central venue since 2015, when the tents came down for good. Shows are staged wherever a designer can find a room - downtown studios, Brooklyn warehouses, the Starrett-Lehigh and Terminal Stores buildings on the far West Side, galleries, churches, restaurants, the street - and the guest's day is therefore a sequence of car journeys between SoHo, Chelsea, the Financial District and Bushwick. The dispersal is the most-complained-about feature of the week and the most revealing: New York's calendar is held together by a document rather than a building.

The CFDA has built a deliberate public layer on top of it. NYFW Live at Rockefeller Center screens shows live from 30 Rockefeller Plaza across the six days, free to anyone standing in the plaza, and the council publishes the full Official Schedule on its own site. A separate bridal calendar runs twice a year, in April and October; the October 2026 edition is set for the 13th to the 15th.

01Por qué es relevante

This is the largest American fashion market event and the one that underwrites the domestic industry's commercial year. The city's own estimate of the week's economic impact, cited for 2016, was around 887 million dollars, and the figure is quoted in municipal arguments about support for the sector. More important structurally is the CFDA's authority over the schedule: because the council both organizes the week and runs the designer funds and awards that shape American careers, a slot on the Official Schedule is a credential rather than a booking.

In our reading New York's position is also its difficulty. Going first means showing before the European houses have set the season's terms, and the week has spent two decades losing its largest names to Paris and then rebuilding around a younger, more varied and more genuinely American roster. The September 2026 schedule is a fair picture of the result: established houses, a large group of labels under ten years old, and a policy layer - the fur-free rule now applying to every brand on the calendar - that the other three cities adopted earlier or not at all.

02La semana en torno al evento

September in New York is the densest month in the city's calendar and fashion week is only one strand of it. In 2026 the week opens two days after the US Open tennis final and overlaps Maison&Objet's September edition in Paris; the Met Opera's season opens on September 22, the Armory Show runs September 24 to 27, and the United Nations General Assembly high-level week follows, which is what actually closes streets and fills hotels. The February edition is the quieter one, arriving in the city's low season with nothing competing for rooms.

Inside the week the disruption is local and mobile. Permits close short stretches of street outside individual venues rather than whole districts, and the traffic effect is concentrated on the West Side Highway, Canal Street and the bridges to Brooklyn in the late afternoon. Hotel pressure falls on SoHo, Tribeca and the Lower East Side rather than Midtown. The genuinely public element is Rockefeller Center, where the live screenings run through the week and where anyone can watch the same shows as the front row, standing in the plaza.

03Cuándo llegar

Buyers arrive the day before the opening and work through to the final Monday; the Tuesday is short. The large shows are spread deliberately across the six days rather than clustered, so there is no version of this week that can be done in three days. For the September 2026 edition the useful arrival is Tuesday September 8 or Wednesday September 9, which catches the eve-of-week shows, and the sensible departure is Tuesday September 15 or the Wednesday. Anyone in the city for other reasons should know that the only thing they can attend is the Rockefeller Center screening programme, and that it costs nothing.

04Dónde alojarse

Downtown is where this week happens. SoHo, Tribeca, the Lower East Side and the Bowery put you within reach of the largest share of venues and showrooms, and the Mercer, the Greenwich and the Bowery Hotel are the recognised landmarks of that geography rather than recommendations. Chelsea and the Meatpacking District suit a schedule weighted to the far West Side buildings. Midtown is the wrong choice for the shows and the right one if the trip also covers the showroom towers on Seventh Avenue and West 38th Street. Williamsburg and Greenpoint are increasingly practical given how many shows are now staged in Brooklyn. In September the binding constraint is the UN General Assembly the following week rather than fashion week itself.

05Acceso y hospitalidad

Shows are by invitation from the designer or the brand's public relations agency; the CFDA does not sell access and issues no general accreditation for the public. Press and buyer credentials are handled by the brands and by the Fashion Calendar subscription, which is a professional service rather than a ticket. The council publishes the Official Schedule free on its own site ahead of each season, which is the document anyone can use. NYFW Live at Rockefeller Center is the week's only open-door element: shows are screened live from 30 Rockefeller Plaza across the six days, free and unticketed. The separate NYFW Bridal calendar operates on the same invitation basis, with dates of April 8 to 10 and October 13 to 15 in 2026.

06Dónde tiene lugar la actividad social

Rockefeller Plaza is the one place an outsider can be part of the week, and during the screening programme it functions as a public grandstand. Otherwise the visible geography is pavement: Spring Street and Mercer Street in SoHo, the Terminal Stores block on West 27th, the Starrett-Lehigh forecourt on Eleventh Avenue, and the streets outside whichever Brooklyn warehouse is in use, where the photographers gather. Evenings concentrate in SoHo, the Bowery and the Lower East Side; the hotel bars at the Mercer, the Bowery and the Standard are the long-standing informal meeting rooms, and the restaurants of Canal Street and the Lower East Side take the bookings. Showrooms on Seventh Avenue and in the West Thirties are the daytime working district. After-parties are private and are not described here.

07Cómo llegar

Aviación comercialJohn F. Kennedy (JFK) for long-haul, Newark (EWR) for transatlantic and domestic, LaGuardia (LGA) for domestic. Newark is often the fastest to downtown; JFK is connected by the AirTrain to the Long Island Rail Road and the subway.
FerroviarioPenn Station and Grand Central serve Amtrak and the commuter networks; the Acela reaches Washington and Boston. Within the city the subway is the only reliable way to move during the week - the 6, N/Q/R/W and A/C/E lines cover the downtown venues and the L line reaches Williamsburg and Bushwick.
AutomóvilCars are how the industry moves and traffic is the price. The West Side Highway, Canal Street, the Holland Tunnel approaches and the Williamsburg Bridge are slow from mid-afternoon. Street parking near venues is suspended when permits are issued.
Aviación privadaTeterboro (TEB) is the principal business-aviation field, with Westchester County (HPN) and Morristown (MMU) as alternates. The transfer into Manhattan is the slow leg.
HelicópteroThe Downtown Manhattan Heliport and the East 34th Street Heliport handle on-demand and shuttle traffic from the New Jersey fields; the downtown pad is the useful one for this week's geography.

08Aspectos prácticos

VestimentaNew York dresses harder than Milan and less theatrically than Paris, and the practical problem is that the week involves more travel between venues than any other: a guest may cross Manhattan four times in a day. The working answer is flat shoes, a coat that photographs well and layers, because February in New York is genuinely cold and September can be humid. There is no code at any show.
ClimaMid-February in New York is cold, with daytime highs often between 2 and 7 degrees Celsius and a real chance of snow; mid-September is warm and humid, usually in the mid to high twenties, with thunderstorms possible. No station normals were sourced for this record.
Cómo desplazarseThe subway is faster than any car for cross-town and Brooklyn journeys during the week and runs all night. Ride-hailing surges between 18:00 and 21:00 when several shows finish together. Permitted street closures are issued per venue and are not published centrally, so allow forty-five minutes between appointments in different neighbourhoods and longer for Brooklyn.
HotelesDowntown hotels tighten for the week and rates rise, though less sharply than during the UN General Assembly that follows the September edition. February is the city's softest month and rooms are straightforward. For September, book by June, and note that the following week is the harder one to find a room in.
RestaurantesSoHo, the Lower East Side and Tribeca restaurants are heavily committed to brand dinners across the six days and the best-known rooms are difficult. Lunch is far easier than dinner. Midtown and the Upper East Side are unaffected. The hotel bars downtown work on turnover and are the reliable fallback.
Momento de la reservaHotels two to three months ahead for September, three to four weeks for February. Restaurant tables downtown two to three weeks ahead for the show nights. The Official Schedule is published six to ten weeks before the week opens, so detailed planning is only possible from then.
EntradasNo tickets are sold for shows. The Official Schedule is published free on cfda.com and fashioncalendar.com. NYFW Live at Rockefeller Center is free and unticketed, screening shows from 30 Rockefeller Plaza across the six days of the September 2026 edition. The Fashion Calendar's full event detail sits behind a professional subscription.
HospitalidadThe CFDA operates no hospitality programme and sells nothing. Access is allocated by brands and their agencies. Sponsors and partners - presenting partners for the awards, streaming and technology partners for the week - run their own programmes for their own guests. No prices are published.

09Historia

The week's origin is the oldest of the four. In 1943 Eleanor Lambert, press director of the New York Dress Institute, organized Press Week to direct American journalists toward American designers while Paris was closed by the war. It was the first organized fashion week anywhere and it ran, loosely, for fifty years.

The modern event dates from 1993, when the CFDA consolidated the city's scattered shows into white tents in Bryant Park under the name 7th on Sixth. IMG bought the business in 2001 and secured Mercedes-Benz as title sponsor in 2007; the tents moved to Lincoln Center in 2010 and were abandoned in 2015, after which the week dispersed across the city and has stayed dispersed. The CFDA acquired the Fashion Calendar - founded in 1945 by the publisher Ruth Finley and run by her for almost seventy years - in October 2014, and with it the role of scheduling the week outright. The most recent policy shift came in September 2025, when the council announced that fur would be barred from every brand on the Official Schedule from September 2026.

10Quién está ahí

American department store, specialty retail and e-commerce buyers, who are the week's commercial core; designers and their studios; editors and critics from the American titles and a substantial international press corps; public relations agencies, which control most invitations; stylists, casting directors and model agencies; the CFDA's own membership and the designers competing for its funds and awards; and a large contingent of content creators, whose attendance is now a negotiated part of a brand's marketing. Outside the venues the audience is the general New York public, and at Rockefeller Center it is whoever happens to be passing.
