Arte

The art calendar is the most disciplined of the international circuits. Its fixed points were set by two companies and one institution: Art Basel's four fairs in Hong Kong, Basel, Paris and Miami Beach; Frieze's in Los Angeles, New York, Seoul and London; and the Venice Biennale, which opens in even years and fills the lagoon with the profession for a week in May. Around them sit TEFAF in Maastricht for old masters and objects, the marquee auction weeks in New York, London and Hong Kong, and a second tier of national fairs — ARCOmadrid, the Armory Show, EXPO Chicago, Zona Maco, Art Dubai — that matter regionally and occasionally more.

What distinguishes this circuit is that the same few thousand people attend most of it. A fair week is also a week of museum openings, gallery dinners and collection visits that the public sees only in part; the fairs themselves are open to anyone with a ticket after the preview days. The calendar below lists every fair and sale week we track, with the status of each date.
