Montreal

Quebec's francophone metropolis, its Grand Prix weekend the year's single busiest.

目的地ページは時系列を軸に構成されている——その場所が重要となる時期、重要性をもたらすイベント、年間を通じた変化——そして実用的な地理情報(空港、マリーナ、地区、ホテルエリア)へと続く。

Montreal was founded in 1642 as Ville-Marie on an island in the St. Lawrence River and remains the largest primarily French-speaking city in the Americas; about 1.76 million people live in the city proper and 4.29 million across the metropolitan area. French is the official language, but the city is genuinely bilingual, and that mix, along with a large student population, gives it a different social texture from the other North American stops in this record.

The fixture this record tracks here is the Canadian Grand Prix, run on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, a 4.4-kilometer track around Île Notre-Dame, an artificial island built for Expo 67. Downtown streets close for a food, music and display program that draws crowds far larger than the circuit itself holds, layered onto a city that already runs one of North America's densest summer festival calendars.

03重要な理由

Montreal's claim on this calendar rests less on the race itself, which is one Formula 1 weekend among many, than on what the city builds around it: a downtown street festival that pulls in far more people than attend the race, powered by a summer festival culture the city already runs at scale through its jazz and comedy festivals. In our reading, Montreal treats the Grand Prix as an occasion for a party it already knows how to throw, rather than importing an event culture that was not there before.

04年間カレンダー(月別)

1月Montreal's coldest month; much of downtown's pedestrian life moves into RESO, the underground city's tunnels and shopping concourses.
2月Still deep winter, with Montreal en Lumiere's lights, food and outdoor programming offering one of the city's few dated winter draws.
3月An early-spring shoulder month as the snow begins to melt and the city's pace stays largely indoors.
4月Spring arrives unevenly; terraces and patios reopen on the first genuinely warm weekends.
5月The Canadian Grand Prix, moved here from its traditional June date as part of Formula 1's 2026 calendar shift, closes the month on Ile Notre-Dame, with downtown streets closed for food, music and display programming from the Thursday before the race.
6月With the Grand Prix's old date now vacated, June opens the summer festival season in earnest, including the first days of the Montreal International Jazz Festival downtown.
7月The Just for Laughs festival, one of the world's largest comedy festivals, and the remainder of the Jazz Festival's program fill the Quartier des Spectacles with performances.
8月A quieter month after July's festival peak, though still full summer weather and an active patio season.
9月A pleasant shoulder month as the weather cools and the summer festival calendar winds down.
10月Canadian Thanksgiving falls on the second Monday of the month; the rest of October is a quiet, colorful autumn shoulder season.
11月A quiet, cooling month with no dated fixture from this record.
12月Holiday markets and lighting downtown bring a modest seasonal visitor increase before deep winter sets in.

06アクセスと周辺移動

空港Montreal-Trudeau International (YUL) · 20 km · 商業用 — the city's main international gateway, west of downtown.Montreal-Saint-Hubert Longueuil (YHU) · 18 km · general_aviation — a secondary field on the South Shore used for general and some charter aviation.
プライベート航空Business aviation generally uses Montreal-Trudeau's general-aviation facilities or Saint-Hubert, which sees added traffic during Grand Prix weekend.
マリーナOld Port of Montreal — the historic waterfront along the St. Lawrence, with the Clock Tower Pier's marina and public promenades.
市内での移動The metro runs directly to a station inside the Grand Prix's own park on Ile Notre-Dame, and most race-weekend visitors arrive underground rather than by car, since parking and road access to the circuit are both limited. The metro and an extensive bus network cover downtown and the festival district at other times of year.

08この場所の変化

Montreal moves from a long, genuinely cold winter carried partly underground through RESO into a short, dense run of summer festivals, with the Grand Prix now anchoring the end of spring rather than the middle of summer since Formula 1's 2026 calendar change.

09沿革

Montreal grew from the fur trade and colonial administration of New France into Canada's largest and most economically important city, a position it held until Toronto's growth overtook it by the 1970s. The 1976 Summer Olympics left the city Olympic Stadium and a debt that took decades to pay off, but also the infrastructure around which several of its modern cultural districts developed. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, built on an island constructed for Expo 67 in 1967, has hosted the Canadian Grand Prix since 1978 and is named for the Quebec-born driver who died in 1982.
