Architects, interior designers, manufacturers and their showrooms, the galleries that sell collectible design, the design press, and a public that attends the Salone del Mobile's Fuorisalone in the hundreds of thousands. The Venice Architecture Biennale in odd years is the profession's exhibition; Milan in April is its trade fair and its festival; Design Miami in December and Design Miami.Basel in June are the collectible-design fairs that run beside the art fairs; Maison&Objet in Paris is the trade's January and September market.

The Venice Architecture Biennale in odd years and Homo Faber in even years give the circuit its Venetian exhibition in alternate years.

Maison&Objet in Paris in the third week of January. The Salone del Mobile in Milan in the third week of April, with the Fuorisalone across the city. The Venice Architecture Biennale's opening in May of odd years. NYCxDesign in New York in May. 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen in June and Design Miami.Basel beside Art Basel the same month, when it is held. Homo Faber in Venice in September of even years, the London Design Festival in the third week of September, PAD London in Berkeley Square in the second week of October beside Frieze. Design Miami in the first week of December beside Art Basel Miami Beach.

Milan is the center. Paris, New York, Copenhagen, Basel, Venice, London and Miami Beach are the stops; all but Copenhagen are also on the art circuit, and the two circuits share their collectors, their fair operators and, in Basel and Miami Beach, their weeks.

Milan in the Salone week is the stop, and the one to choose if choosing one: the fair is at Rho and the Fuorisalone is in the city, and the city is the better part. Hotels are booked months ahead and priced for it. Design Miami in December and PAD London in October are the collectible-design fairs to pair with the art fairs beside them. Venice in an Architecture Biennale year is best in May at the opening or in September when the crowds have gone.

The Salone del Mobile follows Watches and Wonders by a week and coincides with the Monte-Carlo Masters. NYCxDesign runs alongside Frieze New York, the spring auctions and the Met Gala. Design Miami.Basel shares Art Basel's week and therefore Royal Ascot's. The London Design Festival coincides with London Fashion Week and the Cannes Yachting Festival; PAD with Frieze and the October auctions. Design Miami shares its week with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the Antigua Charter Yacht Show. Maison&Objet in January falls between the men's shows and the couture in Paris.
