How the Circuit Score works

An editorial importance rating from 0 to 100, and what it does and does not claim.

Von Global Social Season editors · 6 September 2026 · Aktualisiert 10 September 2026

Every event carries a Circuit Score. It is built from eight factors the editors rate from 0 to 100 — the concentration of influential attendees, international draw, the scale of the publicly reported programme around the event, cultural importance, business relevance, brand presence, scarcity of access and the destination's own pull — combined with fixed weights and rounded. Scores of 90 and above are labelled Defining; 80 to 89 Major; 65 to 79 Significant; 50 to 64 Notable; below 50 Regional. The full method is on the methodology page.

The score orders the site: which events lead the week, which count as major in the month ahead, which make the Season Line, how heavy a weekend reads in the index. It is an opinion made consistent by a formula, not a measurement, and it is labelled provisional while the calendar is being built. Sponsorship never touches it, and the component scores are not published.

The score exists because a calendar needs an order and attendance figures do not supply one: a Grand Prix with two hundred thousand spectators and a fair with forty thousand can matter equally to the people who follow the season, and a ballroom event with six hundred guests can matter more than either. Scores move when the facts move. A venue change, a new date that collides with a larger event, a sponsor's departure, a format that shrinks or grows: each is reviewed when the edition is re-verified, and the change is noted on the event's page. Readers who think a score is wrong can say so through the corrections page, and the editors answer with the reasoning. The public API returns the total and the band only; the eight component ratings and the weights stay on the server, which is what keeps the number from being gamed.
