Date PrevistoWimbledon's pattern is fixed: the main draw runs for a fortnight from the last Monday in June, which in 2027 falls on 28 June, giving finals on 10 and 11 July. Travel operators selling 2027 packages list exactly these dates and describe the edition as the 150th anniversary of the first Championships in 1877. The All England Club's own dates-and-deadlines page is JavaScript-rendered and could not be read directly, so the edition is recorded as expected rather than confirmed until the organizer's published listing is checked.

The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club runs The Championships on eighteen grass courts behind a brick wall on Church Road in southwest London. Centre Court seats about 15,000 and has been roofed since 2009; No. 1 Court seats roughly 11,500 and gained a roof in 2019. Published prize money for 2026 was GBP 64,200,000.

Two Wimbledons run side by side. A show-court ticket buys a seat and a schedule. A Grounds Pass buys the better day: a dozen matches within walking distance, players practicing on the Aorangi courts, the afternoon resale kiosk that sends returned show-court seats on for charity, and the grass bank everyone calls Henman Hill.

The fortnight's shape is legible. Week one is broad and cheap to move through, and since 2022 the middle Sunday carries a full schedule. Week two narrows onto the show courts, with the women's final on the second Saturday and the men's on the Sunday. Electronic line calling replaced the line judges in 2025.

01Perché è rilevante

Wimbledon is the oldest tournament in the sport and the only major still played on grass, which has made it tennis's fixed point rather than merely its most famous stop. It is also the one Slam inside a wider social calendar, sitting between Royal Ascot and Henley. In our reading its authority comes from restraint: no advertising boards, players in white, a Grounds Pass an ordinary visitor can afford, and a club that refused the commercial changes the other Slams made decades ago.

02La settimana intorno all'evento

Southwest London reorganizes itself for a fortnight. The stations run stewarded one-way systems, the residential grid goes to permit-only parking, and Wimbledon Village becomes an outdoor drinking terrace from mid-afternoon.

Central London adds hotel-bar screens and long lunches, and the fortnight overlaps the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the start of Henley and the British Grand Prix.

03Quando arrivare

Come for the first week: a Grounds Pass on the opening Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday delivers more matches and shorter queues than any day in week two. The second Thursday to Sunday is the concentrated social end, worth extra nights only with show-court tickets.

04Dove alloggiare

There is little accommodation in SW19, so the choice is the Village or central London. Wimbledon Village is a short walk uphill and puts you inside the fortnight's own social life, but its few small hotels and short-let houses go months ahead. Most visitors stay centrally and commute, from Mayfair and St James's or from South Kensington for a shorter run to Waterloo.

05Accesso e ospitalità

The club publishes four routes in. The Public Ballot, run since 1924 and now online through a registered account, allocates most show-court seats at face value; applicants are drawn at random and offered a specific day and court rather than choosing one, and tickets are digital and non-transferable. The Queue sells a limited allocation of Centre, No. 1 and No. 2 Court tickets plus several thousand Grounds Passes each morning to people who have queued in Wimbledon Park, with numbered queue cards issued on arrival and overnight camping permitted for the show-court allocation. Returned show-court tickets are resold inside the grounds each afternoon at a low fixed price for the Wimbledon Foundation. Finally, Centre Court and No. 1 Court debentures, issued in five-year cycles since 1920, carry a seat for every day of the cycle and are the only Wimbledon tickets that may lawfully be resold, which is what sustains the legitimate secondary market.

06Dove si svolge l'attività sociale

The Village is the centre of gravity: the pubs and restaurants along the high street, the Common at the top of the hill, and the hotel terraces, all open to anyone who can get a table. On the grounds, the public social space is Aorangi Terrace and the concessions behind No. 1 Court. Almost everything closed-door happens in leased private houses; the streets stay walkable.

07Come arrivare

Aviazione commercialeHeathrow is the natural arrival, 40 to 60 minutes by road; Gatwick connects by train via Clapham Junction.
TrenoSouthfields, on the District line, is a signposted ten-minute walk. Wimbledon station takes National Rail from Waterloo in about seventeen minutes, with shuttle buses during the Championships.
AutoThe club discourages driving. Event-day residents' parking covers SW19 for the fortnight, there is no public parking on site, and park-and-ride arrangements are published each year.
Aviazione privataFarnborough, Luton and Biggin Hill handle London business aviation; Farnborough and Biggin Hill are the shorter transfers to the southwest.
ElicotteroThe London Heliport at Battersea is the only licensed heliport in central London. There is no landing at the grounds.

08Aspetti pratici

AbbigliamentoNo dress code, and the crowd runs from linen suits to shorts. Smart summer dress is the norm on the show courts, and replica sports kit is discouraged in hospitality areas.
MeteoLate June and early July in London typically bring highs in the low twenties Celsius, around 70 to 75F, with evenings near 13 to 15C.
Come spostarsiThe District line to Southfields is calmer than it looks and the walk from that station is the pleasant approach. Avoid Wimbledon station at peak.
HotelLondon absorbs the fortnight, so central rooms stay available, but rates rise in the second week and the Village's small stock is gone by winter.
RistorantiWimbledon Village books out for lunch and early dinner throughout the fortnight; walk-ins are realistic only at the far end of the high street or after nine.
Tempistiche di prenotazioneVillage tables and SW19 short lets go from the previous autumn. Central hotels can be booked six to eight weeks out, though the second weekend tightens.
BigliettiShow-court seats come mainly through the online Public Ballot at face value, day and court allocated at random. Daily Grounds Passes and a limited show-court allocation go each morning to the Queue. Returned show-court tickets are resold cheaply inside the grounds for charity. Debenture seats are the only transferable tickets.
OspitalitàAn official hospitality programme built around the permanent restaurants on the grounds, sold as a package with a show-court seat, plus a small number of licensed overseas agents. Debenture holders have their own lounges.

09Storia

The All England Croquet Club added lawn tennis in 1875 and ran its first Championships in 1877 off Worple Road. Women's singles arrived in 1884, the club moved to Church Road in 1922, and the public ballot began in 1924. Debentures, first issued in 1920 and now sold in five-year cycles, have paid for most of the club's building since, including the new No. 1 Court and the Centre Court roof. Permission to expand into neighbouring Wimbledon Park was granted in September 2024 and then contested in the courts.

10Chi è presente

Ballot winners and queuers who bought the same access as everyone else, debenture holders and their guests, corporate hospitality tables, the tennis trade, and a large American, Australian and continental European contingent.
