The last Grand Slam of the year, played on hard courts in Queens across Labor Day and into September.

Datas PrevistoEstimated from the tournament's rule that play begins on the Sunday immediately preceding the last Monday in August and runs fifteen days. The last Monday in August 2027 is 30 August, so the Sunday start is 29 August and the men's final falls on 12 September. Travel sellers list both 29 August and 30 August as the start; the 30 August listings appear to apply the older fourteen-day, Monday-start pattern that the USTA replaced from 2026. The USTA's own calendar page could not be read (the site timed out), so this is recorded as expected.

The USTA runs the US Open at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, a public park facility in Flushing Meadows that the tournament has occupied since 1978. Arthur Ashe Stadium seats 23,771 and has been roofed since 2016; Louis Armstrong, rebuilt for 2018, seats 14,061 under a roof of its own; the Grandstand holds 8,125. Published prize money for 2026 was USD 108,000,000, the largest purse in the sport.

The day is split in a way other Slams do not use. Ashe sells separate day and night sessions, each needing its own ticket, while a Grounds Admission ticket, first week only, covers everything except Ashe. Two different events therefore happen on one site: a park by day, with people moving between Armstrong, the Grandstand and the field courts, and a stadium show at night with a late start and a crowd that came for two matches.

Before the main draw the USTA runs Fan Week, when qualifying and practice are open with free grounds admission. Since 2025 the mixed doubles has been pulled out of the main draw and staged there as a compressed two-day event contested largely by singles players.

01Por que importa

New York's Slam is the loudest and least deferential of the four, and that is the point of it. It closes the Grand Slam year, so it carries the season's arithmetic, and it lands exactly as the city comes back from August, which gives it a social weight the tournament itself did not build. In our reading it is the most genuinely public of the majors: Grounds Admission is cheap by the standards of this calendar, Fan Week is free, and a first-week day ticket buys more tennis for less money than anything comparable.

02A semana ao seu redor

The tournament arrives as the city refills. Labor Day weekend sits in the middle, the fall auction previews and the gallery season are being set up, New York Fashion Week follows within days, and The Armory Show opens on the piers in the second week.

On the ground, Flushing Meadows works well and its surroundings barely change. Corona and downtown Flushing absorb the crowd without any tournament apparatus, and the good food near the gates is in Flushing rather than in the grounds. Brand activity concentrates inside the site and in a few midtown hotel takeovers.

03Quando chegar

The first Tuesday through Thursday is the best value in the tennis calendar: full field courts, Grounds Admission on sale, and Ashe available as a separate purchase. Arrive the weekend before for Fan Week, which is free.

04Onde se hospedar

Almost nobody stays in Queens, though the business hotels around LaGuardia and in Long Island City sit fifteen minutes from the gates and are the pragmatic choice for a multi-day visit. Manhattan is the default: midtown east for the fastest Long Island Rail Road connection, the Upper East Side if you are also working the auction and gallery calendar, downtown if the tennis is one item among several.

05Acesso e hospitalidade

The USTA sells four kinds of access. Arthur Ashe day and night sessions are ticketed separately, seat by seat, with a card-issuer presale ahead of a general on-sale months in advance. Grounds Admission, available for the first week only, covers Louis Armstrong, the Grandstand and every field court but not Ashe, and is the cheapest serious ticket at any major. Fan Week, before the main draw, is free to enter and includes qualifying. Full-tournament and multi-session subscriptions are sold to returning buyers and are how most of the good Ashe seats are held. Secondary resale is permitted and runs through an official marketplace as well as the open market, which is unusual among the Slams. Official hospitality is sold through the USTA's appointed provider and by licensed official travel partners, combining reserved stadium seats with suites and restaurants on site; prices are quoted by the provider rather than posted as a public tariff.

06Onde ocorre a actividade social

Inside the grounds the public social space is the food village and the South Plaza, plus the concourse bars in Ashe and Armstrong. The suites and the President's Box are closed; almost everything else is open to anyone with a ticket.

07Como chegar

Aviação comercialLaGuardia is about ten minutes from the gates and is the natural arrival; JFK is fifteen to twenty-five; Newark is across the city and only sensible if you are staying in Manhattan.
ComboioThe Long Island Rail Road adds service to Mets-Willets Point from Penn Station and Grand Central Madison during the tournament and is the fastest route from Manhattan.
AutomóvelPaid parking is available in the Citi Field lots. The Grand Central Parkway and the Van Wyck are congested at session changeover, and ride-hail pick-up is held at a designated zone.
Aviação privadaTeterboro is the usual New York business-aviation field, with Westchester County and Republic on Long Island as alternatives; Republic is the shortest drive to Flushing Meadows.
HelicópteroThe East 34th Street and Downtown Manhattan heliports are the departure points, and operators have published seasonal shuttles to the tournament in recent years.

08Aspectos práticos

TrajeNo dress code, and September in Queens is hot. Day sessions are shorts-and-cap weather and the sun on the upper tiers is unrelenting.
ClimaLate August and early September in New York typically bring highs around 27 to 30C, roughly 80 to 86F, with high humidity and warm nights near 20C.
Deslocação e transporteUse the Long Island Rail Road for the finals weekend and the 7 train for everything else.
HotéisNew York is large enough that the tournament alone does not move rates, but the second week collides with the start of the fall business calendar and with fashion week, which does.
RestaurantesNothing near the site needs booking except on finals weekend, and Flushing is walk-in by nature.
Prazo para reservasAshe sessions go on presale and general sale several months ahead and the good ones sell through quickly; hospitality packages are sold from the spring.
IngressosArthur Ashe day and night sessions are ticketed separately. Grounds Admission, first week only, covers all courts except Ashe and is the cheapest full day of major-tournament tennis anywhere. Fan Week, including qualifying, is free.
HospitalidadeThe USTA runs an official programme of suites, restaurants and lounges on site, sold with reserved stadium seating, and licenses official travel partners to sell packages with hotels and transfers.

09Histórico

The championship dates to August 1881, first played on grass at the Newport Casino in Rhode Island. It moved to Forest Hills in 1915, went open in 1968, and left for the purpose-built National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows in 1978, changing surface from grass to clay to hard courts along the way. Arthur Ashe Stadium opened in 1997 and set the commercial template the other majors later followed at smaller size; the roof arrived in 2016 after a run of rain-disrupted finals, and Louis Armstrong was rebuilt for 2018.

10Quem está presente

The broadest crowd of the four majors: New Yorkers buying single sessions, corporate hospitality at a scale no other Slam matches, the American sports and media industry, sponsors in the Ashe suites, and a large international contingent arriving for the second week.
