Robin Hood is a New York poverty-fighting foundation, founded in 1988, that makes grants to community organizations across the five boroughs and covers its own operating costs from its board so that donations go to programmes. Its annual benefit is the single event on which that model depends: the foundation states that the 2026 benefit raised $73 million, enough to finance more than half of its grantmaking budget for the year, and that it has invested close to $3 billion since inception.

The form is a very large seated dinner in the main hall of the Javits Center on the far West Side, with several thousand guests, a live appeal and musical performances. Robin Hood publishes its co-chairs, its corporate partner chair and its performers each year, along with a creative theme that reshapes the hall — in 2026 the room was built around New York food culture. It is not a public event: there is no box office, no published price and no way to buy a seat from outside the foundation's donor network. The foundation is explicit about what the headline number contains, stating that the total 'include[s] all ticket sale receipts, cash donations, pledges, and annual gifts from donors whose contributions are motivated by their attendance at the annual benefit.'

What happens inside beyond that is not described here. The foundation publishes a programme and a total; the rest belongs to the people in the room.

01重要な理由

This is the New York financial industry's annual act of collective giving, and it is unusual in being measurable. Because Robin Hood publishes the total, the grant figure and the number of organizations funded — $140 million to 295 community organizations in the most recent reporting year, reaching 2.73 million people — the benefit can be judged on output rather than on atmosphere, which is rare in this category. In our reading the 2026 edition marks a deliberate change of strategy: launching a $1 billion endowment campaign from the benefit stage is an acknowledgment that a model depending on one night a year is fragile, and the foundation says plainly that annual fundraising will remain the primary engine while the endowment grows behind it.

02前後の週

May is the busiest month in the New York calendar and the benefit sits inside it without much visible trace: it is one evening, indoors, at a convention centre, and it does not change the city around it. What it does change is the diary — the benefit lands in the same fortnight as the Met Gala, the spring auction week and the art fairs, and for a particular slice of New York those three weeks are effectively one continuous obligation. Hudson Yards and the Far West Side see the traffic for a few hours at either end of the evening.

03到着時期

Not applicable for a visitor; this is a single evening for invited guests, who arrive for cocktails and leave after the headline performance. Anyone building a New York trip around the wider mid-May calendar should plan for the auctions and the fairs, which are open, rather than for the benefit, which is not.

04宿泊先

Irrelevant to the benefit itself, which draws a local audience. For the broader May week, Midtown West and Hudson Yards are closest to the Javits Center, and Midtown East and the Upper East Side serve the auction houses and museums that make up the rest of the fortnight.

05アクセスとホスピタリティ

There is no public access. Robin Hood sells tickets and tables, but it does so through its own development channels rather than through any public sale, and it publishes no price. The foundation's own description of the total confirms that ticket receipts are part of it, alongside cash donations, pledges and annual gifts from attending donors. Corporate involvement runs through a corporate partner co-chair and named participating partners, arranged directly with the foundation. Press access is handled by the foundation. For anyone outside that network, the foundation's public-facing route is a donation, not a seat.

06社交活動の場

Inside the Javits Center, for one evening. There is no public satellite programme, no surrounding week and nothing to attend nearby. This record describes the published shape of the evening and no more.

07アクセス方法

民間航空John F. Kennedy (JFK), Newark (EWR) and LaGuardia (LGA) all serve New York; Newark is the closest to the Far West Side in good traffic.
鉄道Penn Station and the new Moynihan Train Hall are about fifteen minutes' walk from the Javits Center, and the 7 train's Hudson Yards terminus is closer still. Grand Central serves Metro-North from Connecticut and Westchester.
車The Javits Center sits beside the Lincoln Tunnel approaches on Eleventh Avenue, which is the slowest stretch of Manhattan at the start of an evening event. Drop-off queues on benefit night are substantial.
プライベート航空Teterboro is the principal business-aviation field for Manhattan, about 30 to 50 minutes by road; Westchester County and Republic serve the other approaches.
ヘリコプターThe West 30th Street Heliport is a few blocks south of the Javits Center and is the closest landing point in Manhattan; it operates under noise and routing restrictions.

08実用情報

服装Black tie, as published on the invitation. The hall is a convention centre dressed for the night, so the floor is flat and the distances are long.
天気Mid-May in New York is mild and often the best weather of the year: daytime temperatures typically around 21 degrees Celsius, evenings in the low teens, with a reasonable chance of rain. The event is entirely indoors. No meteorological normals were retrieved for this record.
市内での移動The 7 train to Hudson Yards and the 34th Street-Hudson Yards entrance are the practical public route; the Javits Center's own Eleventh Avenue frontage is given over to arrivals on the night. Expect Eleventh Avenue and the Lincoln Tunnel approaches to be congested between six and eight in the evening.
ホテルNot driven by this event. Mid-May is high season in New York for other reasons — the auctions, the fairs and the start of the summer convention calendar — and rates reflect that across Midtown.
レストランThe benefit feeds its own guests, so it puts no pressure on restaurants. The Far West Side and Hudson Yards dining rooms are busy before and after, but this is not a week in which the benefit is the reason tables are hard to get.
予約時期Not applicable. Seats are arranged through the foundation, typically in the months before, and there is no open sale to time.
チケットTickets and tables exist but are not sold publicly and no price is published by the foundation; enquiries go through Robin Hood directly. There is no general admission and no livestream. The foundation's public route for support is a donation through its own site.
ホスピタリティCommercial participation is as a corporate partner or a named participating partner, including beverage and wine sponsors the foundation lists each year. There is no hospitality package a visitor can buy. The foundation states that its board covers operating costs so that donated funds go to programmes.

09沿革

Robin Hood was founded in 1988 by a group of New York financiers, and the benefit grew with it from a downtown fundraiser into an event that fills a convention centre. The foundation's reputation was built on crisis response — it has run major relief funds after the attacks of 11 September 2001, after Superstorm Sandy and during the COVID-19 pandemic — alongside its continuous grantmaking. The benefit's totals have risen steadily through the 2020s, from $61.4 million in 2023 to $68.5 million in 2024, $72 million in 2025 and $73 million in 2026, each reported by the foundation itself.

10参加者

New York's investment, banking and hedge-fund community, which founded the foundation and still supplies most of its board and its giving; corporate partners and their senior teams; the leadership of the community organizations Robin Hood funds; and the performers and presenters the foundation engages for the evening. It is a local audience at a national scale of giving.
