Two days, twenty races and one that matters more than the rest. The Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is run over 2,400 metres on turf at ParisLongchamp, in the Bois de Boulogne, on the first Sunday in October. It carries a purse of €5 million and is the only race that regularly assembles the season's best middle-distance horses from Britain, Ireland, France and Japan in one field. Saturday carries several Group races and the Qatar Arabian World Cup; Sunday holds the Arc and a further stack of Group Ones.

Longchamp reopened in 2018 after a four-year rebuild — the Arc ran at Chantilly in the interim — and the course is now one continuous grandstand of glass and pale concrete, a long lawn in front, the old windmill still on the far turn. Access is layered rather than gated by membership, from a five-euro lawn ticket up through restaurant and hospitality tiers. What distinguishes the day from its British equivalents is how unceremonial it is: no procession, no morning dress, no rule about hats.

01Почему это важно

The Arc is the settlement of the European flat season. Horses are trained toward it from spring, and a Derby or a King George is read partly as an Arc trial. Its €5 million purse makes it the richest turf race in Europe, and Japanese owners have pursued it for three decades as the one European prize that would validate their breeding programme. In our reading the weekend's position matters as much as the race — it lands in the same Paris fortnight as the spring-summer shows and the autumn art week.

02Неделя вокруг мероприятия

Arc weekend arrives at the tail of one of the fullest fortnights in the Paris year. Fashion week and the October art week sit on either side of it, and the hotel market is under pressure for reasons unrelated to racing. The Bois changes only for the two days: shuttle buses, restrictions on the Route des Tribunes, a temporary village on the lawn.

03Когда прибыть

Arrive Friday. Saturday's card is good racing with a fraction of Sunday's crowd and the better day to walk the course. Sunday requires being on site by early afternoon — the Arc runs mid-afternoon and the enclosures fill from lunchtime. Leave Monday.

04Где остановиться

The 16th arrondissement is the logical base — Passy, Trocadéro and Auteuil are closest to the Bois, with the course a short drive or a walk through the park. The Right Bank corridor along the Rue Saint-Honoré puts you in the middle of the city's October activity but adds thirty minutes each way. Booking pressure comes from fashion week, not racing.

05Доступ и гостеприимство

France Galop sells the whole meeting through its own platform and publishes prices openly. For 2026: an Arc Village Sunday ticket from €5, general entry from €20, the Winning Post Gold enclosure from €60, parking from €5, then a hospitality ladder running from €80 to €827 with the Panorama restaurant on request. Nothing requires membership.

06Где происходит светская активность

The parade ring below the grandstand, the terraces facing the winning post, the lawn and the restaurant floors. Off course, the hotel bars around Trocadéro and Avenue Montaigne and the restaurants in the Bois. The Japanese-facing restaurants around Rue Sainte-Anne fill on Sunday evening in a way particular to this weekend.

07Как добраться

Коммерческая авиацияCharles de Gaulle carries the long-haul traffic, including the Tokyo services that matter for this weekend.
Железная дорогаEurostar from St Pancras in about two and a quarter hours; locally, Métro line 10 to Porte d'Auteuil or line 1 to Porte Maillot for the racecourse shuttles.
АвтомобильThe Périphérique to Porte d'Auteuil, then the Route des Tribunes. Parking is sold in advance and the Bois roads are restricted on both days.
Деловая авиацияParis–Le Bourget is Europe's busiest business-aviation airport, twenty minutes north.

08Практические сведения

Дресс-кодThere is no enforced dress code across the general enclosures, and the Arc is much less formal than the English meetings: French racegoers wear ordinary autumn city clothes, a coat and good shoes, and hats appear on the Sunday without any obligation. France Galop does publish that a dress code applies in Brasserie ParisLongchamp and the Restaurant du Panorama, and the Prestige tiers follow suit. Early October in the Bois can be cold and wet and the lawn is grass; a well-cut coat and flat shoes beat anything ceremonial.
ПогодаEarly October in Paris is cool and unsettled, typically mid-to-high teens Celsius with rain a genuine possibility on either day. The course sits low beside the Seine and is exposed; the grandstand is the only substantial cover.
Как ориентироватьсяThe shuttle buses from Porte Maillot and Porte d'Auteuil are the most reliable way in and out; ride-hailing into the Bois after the Arc is slow. The walk from Porte d'Auteuil through the park takes about twenty-five minutes.
ОтелиParis in the first week of October is close to full because of fashion week and the art fairs. Book by midsummer for the 16th and the 8th; outer arrondissements stay available later.
РестораныFrance Galop operates several grandstand restaurants that sell out well before the meeting. Off course, the restaurants of the Bois and the 16th take Arc-weekend bookings months ahead.
Сроки бронированияTicketing usually opens in the spring, and the top hospitality tiers sell out first. Hotels in the good arrondissements should be held by June or July.
БилетыAll admission is sold through France Galop's ticketing site: an Arc Village Sunday ticket at €5, general entry at €20, a Winning Post Gold enclosure at €60 and parking from €5 for 2026. Tickets are day-specific, and the Saturday is materially cheaper and less crowded. Nothing is restricted to members.
ГостеприимствоThe 2026 ladder ran from The Summit of the Arc at €80 up through Brasserie ParisLongchamp, the Prestige packages and Prestige Cascade at €827, with the Panorama sold on application. A dress code applies in the brasserie and Panorama.

09История

The race was created in 1920 and named for the Arc de Triomphe to mark the Allied victory parade of 1919; the first running was won by Comrade. It was designed as an international championship when European racing was inward-looking, and took that role permanently after the Second World War. Qatari sponsorship arrived in 2008 and lifted the purse beyond anything else in Europe. A rule barring geldings was lifted with effect from 2027.

10Кто присутствует

European owners and breeders, with the Coolmore and Godolphin operations and the French owner-breeders at the center; the Japanese racing industry and a large Japanese travelling public; the bloodstock trade ahead of the autumn sales; Qatari racing interests as title sponsor; and a substantial Parisian public on the Bois lawn.
