The PGA Tour's biennial team match between the United States and an International side drawn from everywhere except Europe.
The Presidents Cup was created by the PGA Tour in 1994 to give the players ineligible for the Ryder Cup, everyone outside Europe, a team competition of their own. Twelve Americans face twelve internationals across foursomes, fourballs and Sunday singles, thirty matches in all, with six players a side qualifying on points and six chosen by the captain. There is no prize money; the tour distributes funds to charities nominated by the players.
It alternates with the Ryder Cup in even-numbered years and moves between American and international venues. The competition's persistent problem is balance: the International Team has won once, at Royal Melbourne in 1998, and tied once, in South Africa in 2003. What the event does reliably deliver is a well-run, accessible team week at a good course, with far easier access than a Ryder Cup.
01Pourquoi c'est important
The Presidents Cup matters most to the players it was invented for: for Australians, South Africans, Japanese, Korean and Latin American professionals it is the only team competition at this level, and the International Team's identity has become a genuine cause within the game. In our reading it sits a clear step below the Ryder Cup in atmosphere and international draw, and it is the better week to actually attend for exactly that reason.
02La semaine environnante
American editions land in a large metropolitan area and are absorbed by it. Chicago in late September 2026 will not notice the event outside the western suburbs, where the DuPage hotel corridor and the towns around Medinah and Itasca will fill.
03Quand arriver
Practice days from Tuesday to Wednesday are cheap and quiet; the Thursday opening session is the first day of competition under the current format.
04Où séjourner
For the 2026 match, the practical bases are the DuPage and northwest suburban hotel clusters around Itasca, Schaumburg and Oak Brook, all within twenty to thirty minutes of the course and with deep capacity, or downtown Chicago, forty-five minutes away and a far better place to spend an evening.
05Accès et hospitalité
The PGA Tour sells tickets directly through the competition's own site, with practice-day tickets, individual competition days and weekly options, and it opens sales well ahead of the match. Unlike the Ryder Cup, there is no ballot and general admission is available on ordinary terms, which makes this the most straightforward team event in golf to attend.
06Où se déroule l'activité sociale
On site, the spectator village, the merchandise pavilion and the grandstands at the closing holes are the public gathering points, along with the first tee, where the team introductions draw the day's largest crowd.

08Informations pratiques
09Historique
The first match was played in 1994 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia and the competition was conceived as a PGA Tour property from the start, which distinguishes it from the Ryder Cup's joint administration.
10Qui s'y trouve
A regional American golf crowd at United States editions, with corporate hospitality from the host city's business community, the PGA Tour's own sponsor network, and a modest but committed international following that travels for the away matches, particularly Australians and South Africans.
