Daten ErwartetNot yet announced. PAD London opens on the Tuesday of Frieze week and runs to the Sunday, so that its preview falls a day before the art fairs open and its public days overlap with them; the 2026 edition runs October 13–18 on exactly that pattern. The equivalent 2027 window is October 12–17. The organizer usually publishes about nine months ahead, once Frieze has fixed its own dates.

Berkeley Square Gardens - London, UK, PAD London One of London's most exclusive private clubs, PAD London 41 Berkeley Square, Mayfair, June 2023, PAD London The Berkeley Plane, PAD London 34 Berkeley Square and 130 Mount Street, Mayfair, September 2022, PAD London

PAD is the smallest of the fairs that fill London in Frieze week and the only one devoted entirely to design. Patrick Perrin, a fourth-generation Parisian antique dealer, founded the London fair in 2007 as a sister to the Paris event he had launched in 1998, and it has taken the same form every year since: a temporary pavilion put up in the gardens of Berkeley Square, in the middle of Mayfair, for six days in October.

What the sixty-odd galleries bring is a mix that no other London fair assembles — French and Italian mid-century furniture, Scandinavian ceramics, contemporary studio pieces made in editions, tribal and Asian art, and a substantial jewelry contingent. The scale is domestic rather than institutional: most of what is on the stands would go into a room rather than a museum, and much of it is priced accordingly, which makes PAD unusually approachable for a fair of its standing.

The location does most of the work. Berkeley Square sits between the Mayfair galleries and the Bond Street salerooms, five minutes from Phillips and ten from Sotheby's, and the fair opens on the Tuesday, a day before Frieze London and Frieze Masters. That sequence is deliberate: the collectors arriving for the art fairs pass through PAD first, and the design dealers get them before anyone else does.

01Warum es relevant ist

PAD is where the London interiors trade and the international design market meet the art-collecting audience, and its position in the week gives it disproportionate reach for a fair of sixty-odd stands. For dealers in twentieth-century furniture it is one of three or four selling weeks that matter in a year. For visitors, it is the most efficient way to understand what collectible design costs and what it looks like in quantity, because the whole fair can be walked in an hour and a half. In our reading, PAD's real function in Frieze week is as a corrective: after two enormous fairs in Regent's Park, a small pavilion full of chairs and lamps that people actually use is a relief, and the trade treats it that way.

02Die Woche darum

PAD sits at the center of the busiest week in London's cultural year. Frieze London and Frieze Masters open in Regent's Park on the Wednesday; Christie's, Sotheby's and Phillips hold their October evening sales across the same three days; and the Mayfair and St James's galleries put up their strongest shows and stay open late. Berkeley Square itself is closed to traffic on the pavilion's side. Everything of consequence that week is within a twenty-five-minute walk, which is the single most useful fact about London's October and the reason people who follow the design market come for it.

03Anreisezeitpunkt

Come in on the Monday or Tuesday. The Collectors Preview on the Tuesday and the VIP Opening on the Wednesday are the days the trade does its business; the public days from Thursday are quieter to look at and easier to talk on. If PAD is the reason for the trip rather than Frieze, three nights from Tuesday covers the fair, the Mayfair galleries and the saleroom exhibitions comfortably.

04Unterkunft

Mayfair, obviously — Berkeley Square is the fair's front door and Claridge's, the Connaught and the Beaumont are all within a few hundred yards. Marylebone is the better-value alternative and is closer to Regent's Park for the Frieze days. St James's is quiet and convenient for the salerooms. Anything further out means the Underground during the busiest week of London's autumn, which is manageable but takes the pleasure out of a week whose whole point is that it can be walked.

05Zugang und Hospitality

PAD sells public tickets online through its own registration system for the Thursday to Sunday. The Collectors Preview on the Tuesday and the VIP Opening on the Wednesday operate on the fair's invitation list, administered through the exhibiting galleries and the fair's own collector relations, and are not sold. The organizer publishes practical detail down to the coat-check charges of £2 for a jacket or small bag and £5 for a suitcase; ticket prices were not stated on the page we read. No hospitality packages are offered.

06Wo das gesellschaftliche Geschehen stattfindet

Berkeley Square and the streets immediately off it — Bruton Street, Bruton Place, Mount Street and Davies Street — carry the fair's daytime and early evening traffic, and the hotel bars on Brook Street and Mount Street fill from six. Cork Street, Dover Street and Albemarle Street hold the gallery openings. The salerooms at Berkeley Square, New Bond Street and King Street are all within ten minutes' walk. Regent's Park absorbs the fair crowd during the day. All of it is public; the dinners are not.

07Anreise

LinienluftfahrtHeathrow (LHR) with the Elizabeth line to Bond Street, which is a five-minute walk from Berkeley Square; London City (LCY) for short-haul European arrivals; Gatwick (LGW) and Stansted (STN) with fast trains to Victoria and Liverpool Street.
BahnEurostar into St Pancras International from Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam — the route by which a good part of PAD's exhibiting trade arrives — and a fifteen-minute taxi or two stops on the Victoria line to Green Park.
AutoNot worth it. Berkeley Square is inside both the congestion charge and the ultra-low emission zones, parking is metered and scarce, and the whole week is walkable.
PrivatluftfahrtFarnborough (FAB), Luton (LTN) and Biggin Hill (BQH) serve London business aviation and are between forty minutes and an hour and a quarter from Mayfair by road, longer in Frieze week traffic.
HubschrauberThe London Heliport at Battersea is the only licensed heliport in central London, about fifteen minutes from Mayfair by road.

08Praktische Hinweise

KleidungMayfair daytime: jackets, no ties needed, and the design and interiors trade is the best-dressed part of the week. October in London wants a coat and an umbrella. Nothing formal is required on the public days.
WetterCool and often wet. The London Weather Centre figures reported on Wikipedia give October a mean daily maximum of 16.1°C and a mean minimum of 10.9°C, with about 68 mm of rain across the month at Kew on the 1991–2020 normals. The pavilion is heated; the walk between it and Regent's Park is not.
Vor Ort navigierenBerkeley Square is five minutes from Green Park and Bond Street stations and ten to fifteen minutes on foot from all three auction houses. Regent's Park and the Frieze tents are twenty-five minutes on foot or two stops on the Jubilee line to Baker Street. Taxis in Mayfair between five and eight in the evening during Frieze week are slower than walking.
HotelsFrieze week is one of the two or three busiest weeks of the London hotel year and Mayfair fills first. Rates rise noticeably across the middle of October. Two to three months ahead is normal for Mayfair and Marylebone; further out, the week is bookable much later.
RestaurantsMayfair is fully committed on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and the good tables go a month ahead. Lunch around Berkeley Square is easier than dinner. Marylebone, Fitzrovia and Soho absorb the overflow at much shorter notice, and the hotel bars take no bookings and are standing room after eight.
ReservierungszeitpunktHotels two to three months ahead for Mayfair. Restaurant tables three to four weeks for the preview evenings. Public tickets can be bought online close to the date. Preview access cannot be bought and must come through an exhibiting gallery or the fair's own list, which is settled weeks in advance.
TicketsPublic admission for Thursday to Sunday is sold online through the fair's registration system; the organizer did not publish prices on the page we read, so none are given here. The Tuesday Collectors Preview and the Wednesday VIP Opening are by invitation only. Opening hours are 11am to 7pm on all days except the closing Sunday, which ends at 6pm, and the Tuesday preview, which runs to 8pm. Coat check is charged at £2 or £5 depending on the item.
HospitalityNo hospitality programme is published or sold. The preview days function as the fair's hospitality, and access to them is administered by the exhibiting galleries for their own clients and by the fair's collector relations team. A visitor buying a public ticket sees exactly the same stands two days later, with more room to look.

09Geschichte

Perrin's Paris fair began in 1998 in the Jardin des Tuileries, at a moment when twentieth-century design was moving out of the antiques trade and into a collectors' market of its own. The London edition followed in 2007, arriving in Berkeley Square just as Frieze had established October as London's art month and just before the financial crisis reshaped the market it served. It survived that and grew steadily; The Art Newspaper marked its fifteenth edition in 2023. PAD has since extended to Saint-Tropez in the summer, but London and Paris remain the two fairs that carry the name's weight.

10Wer ist dort

Interior designers and decorators, who are the fair's core buyers; private collectors of twentieth-century and contemporary design; the Mayfair and Pimlico Road antiques and interiors trade; art collectors crossing over from the Frieze fairs and the salerooms; and jewelry buyers, for whom PAD has a distinct following. Smaller and more professional than the fairs in Regent's Park, and noticeably more European.
