The Miami Open is the second half of what the tour calls the Sunshine Double, following Indian Wells within days and running twelve days of combined ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 play with 96-player singles draws. Since 2019 it has been staged at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, where a full tennis complex is built each spring in and around the football bowl and dismantled after the final.

The move north from Key Biscayne changed the event's character more than its standing. For thirty-one years it was played at Crandon Park, a low-rise site on a barrier island; a long legal fight over redevelopment ended that in 2018. Hard Rock is bigger and better connected by road, but it is fifteen miles inland from the Miami people come for, and the tournament has spent the years since rebuilding the atmosphere with music, food and stadium-scale production.

The organizer sells session tickets for the stadium court and grounds admission covering the outside and grandstand courts, along with multi-session and full-tournament packages; ticket sales run through the tournament's own site and its ticketing partner, with an expression-of-interest form used to route buyers to a sales representative for the larger products.

At the venue, the public spaces are the concourse plazas between the outside courts, the food village and the stadium's open decks, all reachable on grounds admission.

Commerciële luchtvaartMiami International is about twenty-five minutes from Hard Rock Stadium; Fort Lauderdale is a similar distance from the north and often easier.
TreinBrightline's Aventura station leaves a short ride-hail to the stadium; Tri-Rail serves Opa-locka. Neither reaches the venue directly.
AutoThe stadium is built for football crowds and has extensive paid parking, but I-95 and the causeways from Miami Beach add half an hour each way.
PrivéluchtvaartOpa-locka Executive is ten minutes from the stadium and the busiest private field in South Florida; Fort Lauderdale Executive is the alternative.

DresscodeMiami dress: light, bright and unstructured. The stadium is hot and humid and the concourse courts have limited shade, so hats and sunglasses matter more than anything else.
WeerLate March in Miami typically brings daily highs around 28C, roughly 82F, with warm nights near 21C and high humidity.
Verplaatsing ter plaatseAllow an hour from Miami Beach to the stadium in the afternoon and plan the return for after the crowd clears.
HotelsMarch is peak season in Miami regardless of the tennis, and the tournament coincides with the city's music week and with spring break, so Miami Beach is at its most expensive and least available of the year.
RestaurantsMiami's best restaurants take reservations three to four weeks out and much of that inventory is absorbed by corporate entertaining during the tournament.
ReserveringstimingTicket sales open from the preceding autumn, with the final weekend and the stadium night sessions going first.
TicketsStadium court sessions are ticketed separately from grounds admission, which covers the outside and grandstand courts.
HospitalityOfficial hospitality is sold directly by the tournament and consists of suites, club seats and dedicated hospitality areas built into Hard Rock Stadium for the event, generally including food and drink.

Butch Buchholz founded the tournament in 1985 with the intention of creating a fifth major, and briefly called it the Winter Wimbledon.

A South Florida and Latin American crowd above all, with a large Brazilian, Argentine and Colombian following that gives the stadium its noise, alongside the American tennis industry, corporate hospitality from Miami's finance and real estate sectors, and a young international contingent overlapping with the city's music week.
