The weeks in late April and May when Ibiza's venues announce and stage their openings, and the island turns from a quiet Balearic winter into its season.

Ibiza does not have an opening night; it has an opening season, and it is a marker rather than an event. Through the winter the island is a quiet Balearic place of about 150,000 people, its clubs shuttered and much of Sant Antoni and Playa d'en Bossa closed. From February the venues begin publishing their opening dates and line-ups one by one, and from the last weekend of April the island reopens over roughly five weeks. In 2026 the first of them fell over 24 to 26 April, with Pacha, Hi Ibiza, Ushuaia and the newer large venue UNVRS all opening in the same weekend; Amnesia followed on 9 May, marking fifty years since it opened in 1976.
What a visitor actually sees is a coastline switching on. The beach clubs put out their loungers, the sunset bars along the Sant Antoni strip reopen, the marinas at Botafoch and Ibiza fill with boats coming east from Palma and Denia, and the airport's traffic multiplies. The island's licensing regime shapes the days: clubs run late into the morning under Balearic rules, the beach clubs run afternoons, and the sunset bars occupy the hours between, which is why an Ibiza day inverts.
All of it is commercial and publicly sold. The venues are licensed businesses that sell tickets and tables online; there is no members' layer and nothing that a visitor cannot buy into, though the prices at the top end are high and rise sharply through the summer. Away from the clubs the island has a great deal else - the walled old town of Dalt Vila, a UNESCO World Heritage site above the harbour; the salt pans and beaches of the south; the hippy markets at Las Dalias and Punta Arabi; and Formentera half an hour away by ferry.
01Neden önemlidir
Ibiza is the single most important commercial market in electronic music, and the opening weeks are when the year's residencies, promoters and venue programmes are set out in public. What is announced in February and staged in late April determines where the island's audience goes from May to October, and by extension a large part of the international touring calendar. Its place in this calendar is as a season marker rather than a date: the Mediterranean summer effectively begins here, three weeks before Cannes and four before Monaco, and the yacht and villa market moves accordingly. In our reading, the opening weeks are the best time to come and the least well understood. The island is cooler, cheaper and emptier than it will be in August, the sea is still cold enough that the beaches are quiet, the venues are running their strongest programmes to establish the season, and the Balearic spring - green hills, wildflowers, almond and fig country in the interior - is the version of Ibiza that its residents rate most highly.
02Etrafındaki hafta
The opening weeks are the island's transition and the change is visible week by week. In April the roads are clear, the hire-car fleet is available and the restaurants in Santa Eulalia, Sant Josep and the interior villages are taking bookings the same day; by the end of May the coast roads to Playa d'en Bossa and Sant Antoni are slowing at the ends of the day and the airport is busy from six in the morning. The marinas fill as the Mediterranean charter fleet moves east from Palma. Boat parties and the Formentera day trip start running. The International Music Summit, the industry conference that has traditionally marked the start of the season, is held on the island in late April and is the one part of the opening period that is a scheduled fixture with published dates and public tickets. Outside all of this, the island in May is at its most agreeable: the north around Sant Joan and Portinatx is empty, the coastal paths are walkable before the heat, and the sea is clear and cold.
03Ne zaman varılır
Come in the second or third week of May rather than for the opening weekend itself, unless a specific venue's opening is the reason for the trip. By mid-May everything is running, the island is still uncrowded, rates have not reached summer levels and the weather is warm without being punishing. Four or five nights is right. If you are coming for the openings, arrive on the Thursday and expect to sleep in the daytime; the island's rhythm at that point runs from a late-afternoon start to a morning finish, and trying to combine it with beaches and driving is a mistake most first-time visitors make.

Ibiza Town and the Marina Botafoch side of the harbour put you within walking distance of the old town, the port and Pacha, and a short taxi from Playa d'en Bossa; this is the best base for anyone who wants the island rather than just the clubs. Playa d'en Bossa, a long beach immediately south, is where the largest venues and the big beach hotels are and is the most convenient and least attractive stretch of coast. Sant Antoni in the west is the sunset-strip town, cheaper and much younger. Santa Eulalia on the east coast is the family and residential option, calm and well supplied with restaurants. The interior around Sant Josep, Santa Gertrudis and Sant Joan is agroturismo and villa country and is where the island is at its most pleasant, at the cost of needing a car and a driver. Villas are the dominant form of accommodation at the top of the market and are booked through agencies well ahead.

Everything here is a commercial ticket, published by the venue. Each club sells entry online through its own site and through the island's ticketing platforms, with tiered pricing that rises through the season, and sells tables and beds in its own areas at published prices. Beach clubs sell sunbeds and tables the same way. There is no membership structure, no invitation layer and nothing that requires an introduction, which distinguishes Ibiza sharply from most of the events in this calendar; the constraint is price rather than access. The one caution worth stating is that the resale and street-promoter market around the venues is substantial and unreliable, and the venues' own channels are the only ones that should be used. The International Music Summit sells delegate passes publicly. Prices are not stated in this record because they are set venue by venue and change through the season.
06Sosyal faaliyetin gerçekleştiği yer
The public geography is straightforward. Ibiza Town's port and the streets below Dalt Vila carry the evening before anything else opens; the walk up through the walls to the cathedral and the bastions is free and is the best hour of the day. Playa d'en Bossa is the beach-club and large-venue strip. Sant Antoni's western shore is the sunset strip, where the bars along the Caleta stretch have sold the same view for forty years and where a large crowd gathers on the rocks for nothing at all. Marina Botafoch and the Ibiza marina are where the boats are and where the harbour restaurants run. Away from all of it, Las Dalias at Sant Carles and the Punta Arabi market at Es Cana are the island's long-running hippy markets and are open days rather than nights. Formentera, half an hour by ferry from the port, is the standard day out.

09Tarihçe
Ibiza's modern character was formed in the 1960s and 1970s, when the island became a stop on the northern European counterculture route and its first clubs opened - Pacha in Ibiza Town in 1973, Amnesia in the countryside at Sant Rafel in 1976, both originally open-air. The island's role in dance music dates from the mid-1980s, when a group of British DJs visiting Amnesia took its eclectic mix back to London and set off the acid house movement; Ibiza has been the sector's summer capital ever since. The 1990s and 2000s brought the superclub model, the 2010s the very large open-air venues at Playa d'en Bossa and the residency economy that now dominates. Two counter-currents matter. Dalt Vila and the island's Posidonia seagrass meadows were inscribed by UNESCO in 1999, giving Ibiza a heritage identity alongside the nightlife one; and since 2020 the Balearic government has tightened rules on street drinking, all-inclusive alcohol and party boats in the most affected zones, in response to sustained local pressure over saturation.
10Kimler orada
The electronic music industry - promoters, agents, labels, venue programmers and DJs, concentrated around the openings and the industry conference in late April; a large British, German, Italian, Dutch and Spanish visitor market, younger and more price-sensitive than most audiences in this calendar; the Mediterranean charter and villa market, which arrives with the boats through May; the island's own residents and seasonal workforce, several thousand of whom arrive for the season; and a substantial separate constituency - families, walkers, the Formentera day-trippers - who come for the island and have nothing to do with the venues at all.

| 2027 · 2027 openings | · 2027 openings | BeklenenNot yet announced. Venues publish their own opening dates and line-ups from February onward, and the flagship openings have clustered on the last weekend of April in recent years, with the rest of the island opening through May. In 2027 that weekend falls either on 23 to 25 April or on 30 April to 2 May, which is why the window here starts on 23 April. Individual venue dates should be taken from each venue's own announcement. |
| 2026 · 2026 openings | · 2026 openings | TamamlandıThere is no single organizer and no single date - each venue announces its own opening. In 2026 the flagship openings fell over the weekend of 24 to 26 April: Pacha across all three nights, Hi Ibiza on Saturday 25 April, Ushuaia on Sunday 26 April, and the newer large venue UNVRS in the same weekend. Amnesia opened later, on 9 May 2026, marking its fiftieth anniversary. The remaining venues opened across the rest of May. The window given here spans that sequence; it is an editorial definition of the opening period, not a published schedule. |
