The Scottish Open occupies the most useful week in golf: the seven days between the American season and The Open Championship, when leading players want links golf and a time zone. The championship dates to 1972, lapsed, and was revived in 1986. It spent its formative modern years inland, at Gleneagles and then at Loch Lomond from 1997 to 2010, a parkland course that made an odd preparation for links golf.
