The Scottish Open occupies the most useful week in golf: the seven days between the American season and The Open Championship, when leading players want links golf and a time zone. Since 2022 it has been co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour, so the field combines the European tour's regulars with a large contingent of Americans acclimatizing, and it has been in the DP World Tour's top prize-money tier since 2017. The 2026 purse was USD 9,000,000.

The venue is The Renaissance Club, a private course on the East Lothian coast between Archerfield and Muirfield, which has hosted since 2019 and is contracted through 2030. This stretch of coast east of Edinburgh holds more good links golf per mile than anywhere else, and the tournament sits in the middle of it. Crowds are large by tour standards and small by major standards, and the wind decides everything.

AutoThe A1 and the A198 coastal road serve the course, and the tour operates park-and-ride; there is no general parking at the club.
PrivéluchtvaartEdinburgh handles business aviation and is the practical field, with Dundee and Glasgow Prestwick as alternatives.
HelikopterCharter operates across the region and is commonly used between Scottish golf venues; there is no public landing at the club.
JachthavensNorth Berwick harbour is small and drying; Port Edgar and Granton near Edinburgh are the practical berths.

DresscodeFull Scottish links kit for spectators: waterproofs, warm layers, and shoes for wet grass. The Firth of Forth wind makes a mild day feel cold on the exposed holes.
WeerEarly to mid July in East Lothian typically brings daily highs of 18 to 20C, about 64 to 68F, with lows near 11C.
Verplaatsing ter plaatseTake the train to Drem and the shuttle, or use the park-and-ride. The coast road is the only alternative and it does not cope with tournament traffic.
HotelsEast Lothian's stock is small and July is peak season regardless of the golf, so North Berwick and Gullane are contracted from the previous autumn.
RestaurantsNorth Berwick and Gullane have a handful of good rooms that book weeks ahead in July and are effectively full during the tournament. Pub food is reliable and takes walk-ins.
ReserveringstimingTickets are on sale from the spring and remain available late.
TicketsSold by the DP World Tour through the tournament site, by day and for the week, with the Wednesday pro-am cheaper and separately ticketed.

09Geschiedenis

The championship dates to 1972, lapsed, and was revived in 1986. It spent its formative modern years inland, at Gleneagles and then at Loch Lomond from 1997 to 2010, a parkland course that made an odd preparation for links golf.
