The Scottish Open occupies the most useful week in golf: the seven days between the American season and The Open Championship, when leading players want links golf and a time zone. Since 2022 it has been co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour, so the field combines the European tour's regulars with a large contingent of Americans acclimatizing, and it has been in the DP World Tour's top prize-money tier since 2017. The championship dates to 1972, lapsed, and was revived in 1986. It spent its formative modern years inland, at Gleneagles and then at Loch Lomond from 1997 to 2010, a parkland course that made an odd preparation for links golf.
