Tarihler BeklenenNot yet announced. Frieze London has run Wednesday to Sunday in the middle of October in The Regent's Park every year since the tent format settled (2024: 9-13 October; 2025: 15-19 October; 2026: 14-18 October). On that pattern 2027 falls on 13-17 October. Frieze publishes fair dates roughly a year ahead when gallery applications open, so this should firm up in early 2027.

Frieze London is held in a purpose-built temporary structure in The Regent's Park for five days in October, and its shape has barely changed since 2003: a long, top-lit tent of white booths, a main section of established galleries, a Focus section reserved for younger ones, and a rotating curated strand that changes character each year. It is a fair for work made now, and it declines to soften that with historical material. That is Frieze Masters' job, in a second tent on the north side of the same park, connected by a free shuttle that runs every fifteen minutes.

The first day is invitation only. The Thursday opens to members and invitation holders in the morning and to general admission in the afternoon, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday are fully public. In practice the fair is transacted on the Wednesday and sold through on the Thursday, and the weekend belongs to a London audience that treats it, correctly, as a large paid exhibition.

Around the tents sits Frieze Sculpture, free and open to anyone walking through the park's English Gardens, which runs for six weeks from mid-September and outlasts the fair itself. It is the part of Frieze most Londoners actually see, and the reason the fair has a civic presence a convention centre could never give it.

01Neden önemlidir

October in London is one of the two or three moments in the year when the entire contemporary trade is in one city, and Frieze is the reason. The auction houses schedule their October evening sales to the fair week, the Mayfair and St James's galleries open their autumn shows against it, and the museums time their season. Attendance has run around 100,000 across the two fairs in strong years.

Our reading is that Frieze's importance is now as much civic as commercial. Its market share has been squeezed from below by Paris in the same month and from above by Basel in June, and the fair itself is smaller than it was at its peak. What it retains is a city that reorganizes around it: no other fair week in Europe puts this many institutions, dealers, auction rooms and artists' studios within a single Underground map.

02Etrafındaki hafta

Frieze Week is the busiest week in the British art calendar. Frieze Masters runs concurrently at the north end of the park; PAD London sets up in Berkeley Square for collectible design and decorative arts; 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair takes Somerset House. Christie's on King Street, Sotheby's on New Bond Street and Phillips on Berkeley Square hold their October sales and open free previews for several days beforehand, which are among the best free viewing in London all year.

The galleries coordinate. Mayfair, St James's and Cork Street run late openings, as do the East End around Herald Street and Vyner Street and the newer south London clusters. Tate Modern and Tate Britain, the Royal Academy, the Serpentine, the Hayward, the Barbican and the Whitechapel all schedule autumn exhibitions into the week. Hotel demand in the West End rises noticeably and restaurant availability in Mayfair and Marylebone tightens, though London is large enough that the effect is local rather than citywide. Regent's Park itself becomes hard to cross, with fencing and traffic management around both tents from early October.

03Ne zaman varılır

Tuesday night if you hold a first-day card, because Wednesday opens at eleven and the auction previews are best seen before the fair swallows the day. Wednesday evening for a Thursday members' preview. On a general ticket, Thursday afternoon or Friday morning is the sweet spot: enough is still on the walls and the crowd is manageable. Saturday is the busiest public day. Sunday is quiet and pleasant. Most international visitors leave Sunday or Monday, and many go on to Paris.

Marylebone is the closest useful neighbourhood, a fifteen-minute walk from the Frieze London entrance and full of small hotels; the Chiltern Firehouse and the Landmark are the landmark addresses. Mayfair puts you among the galleries and the auction houses and is the default for anyone whose week is about both, with Claridge's and the Connaught as the familiar meeting points and the walk to the park about half an hour. Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury are cheaper and equally well placed for the Tube. South Kensington and Chelsea are further from the park but close to the museums. Shoreditch and Hackney suit anyone spending real time in the East End galleries. London's hotel stock is deep enough that Frieze week is bookable late, which is not true of any other major fair city.

05Erişim ve ağırlama

Frieze publishes a clear tiered structure. The Wednesday is invitation only. Thursday morning is for Frieze Members and invitation holders, with general admission from the afternoon; Friday, Saturday and Sunday are public. Tickets are sold on frieze.com and admit the holder to both Frieze London and Frieze Masters, with a free shuttle between them running roughly every fifteen minutes. Frieze also sells an annual membership that carries preview access, which is the one route to a preview that does not require a gallery relationship. Prices are published each year and are not reproduced here. Frieze Sculpture in the English Gardens is free and unticketed for its full six-week run, and the auction house previews across Mayfair and St James's are free and open to the public.

06Sosyal faaliyetin gerçekleştiği yer

The park is the daytime centre: the English Gardens where Frieze Sculpture stands, the walk between the two tents, and the cafés at the Regent's Park and Baker Street ends. In the evening the week moves to Mayfair, where the gallery openings on Cork Street, Davies Street, Dover Street and Bruton Street run late, and the hotel bars along Brook Street and Mount Street fill; the Connaught Bar and Claridge's are the reliable crossroads. Soho and Fitzrovia take the overflow, and Marylebone High Street is where much of the trade eats. In the East End the openings around Herald Street, Bethnal Green and London Fields draw a younger crowd and are genuinely open-door. Somerset House during 1-54 is the most pleasant public space of the week.

Ticari havacılıkHeathrow (LHR) is 45 to 60 minutes from the West End by Elizabeth line or Heathrow Express. Gatwick (LGW) is 30 minutes by train to Victoria. London City (LCY) is closest to the centre and useful for European arrivals; Stansted and Luton serve low-cost routes.
DemiryoluEurostar reaches St Pancras International from Paris in about two and a quarter hours, from Brussels in under two and from Amsterdam in about four, which is why the Frieze-to-Paris transfer works so easily. Regent's Park, Great Portland Street, Baker Street and Camden Town Underground stations all serve the park.
ArabaThe Congestion Charge and Ultra Low Emission Zone apply to central London during the day, parking around Regent's Park is metered and scarce, and traffic management around the fair tents makes the immediate area slow. The Underground and walking are faster.
Özel havacılıkFarnborough, Luton, Biggin Hill and London Oxford handle the business aviation traffic, all between 40 and 75 minutes from the centre. Slot pressure at Luton and Farnborough builds during the fair week.
HelikopterThe London Heliport at Battersea is the only licensed heliport in central London and handles transfers to Farnborough and the country; helicopter movement over central London is tightly restricted.

08Pratik bilgiler

KıyafetLondon dresses down for Frieze and overdressing is conspicuous. Coats matter more than anything: the tents are heated but the walk between them is outdoors and October rain is likely. Good shoes for wet grass and gravel. Evening openings and dinners are smart but almost never formal, and black tie appears only at separately organized benefit events.
Hava DurumuMid-October in London is cool and often wet, with daytime highs typically in the low to mid teens Celsius, nights near single figures, and daylight ending around 6pm. Rain during a five-day stay is close to certain. Description is qualitative; no station normals were sourced.
DolaşımThe Underground is the fastest way in and out of the park, and Regent's Park, Great Portland Street and Baker Street stations are all within a short walk of the Frieze London entrance; Frieze Masters is nearer Camden Town and Chalk Farm. The free inter-fair shuttle runs every fifteen minutes or so. Taxis and ride-hailing struggle around the Outer Circle at closing time; walking to Marylebone or Great Portland Street is quicker.
OtellerLondon's hotel supply is large enough that Frieze does not sell out the city. Rates in Mayfair, Marylebone and Fitzrovia rise for the week and the best-known addresses go early, but rooms of some kind remain available late, which distinguishes this fair week from Basel's or Venice's.
RestoranlarMayfair and Marylebone tighten sharply, with galleries and auction houses taking private rooms for the Wednesday and Thursday nights. Fitzrovia, Soho and the East End absorb the rest. Booking three to four weeks ahead covers most of what a visitor wants; the small number of restaurants the trade favours go earlier.
Rezervasyon zamanlamasıHotels four to six weeks ahead is generally enough, earlier for the Mayfair landmarks. Restaurants three to four weeks in the West End. Fair tickets go on sale online months ahead and the Saturday sells out first.
BiletlerOne ticket admits the holder to both Frieze London and Frieze Masters, sold on frieze.com by day. Frieze publishes prices each year and they are not reproduced here as they were not verified for this record. Frieze Members receive preview access. Frieze Sculpture in the English Gardens is free, unticketed and open from mid-September to the start of November, well beyond the fair itself.
AğırlamaThe Wednesday preview is by invitation, issued by Frieze and by exhibiting galleries to their own collectors; a Frieze membership is the published route to preview access for anyone without a gallery relationship. On-site hospitality is partner-run, with the fair's headline sponsor operating the principal lounge. The wider week's hospitality belongs to galleries, auction houses and brands rather than to Frieze; the free auction previews and the museum openings are the substantial public equivalent.

09Tarihçe

Matthew Slotover and Amanda Sharp founded the fair in 2003, twelve years after starting Frieze magazine, and it arrived at the right moment for a London art scene that had spent the 1990s becoming internationally visible without a market event to match. The first edition drew 27,700 visitors; by 2016 that figure had reached 105,000 across the London fairs.

Frieze Masters was added in 2012 to hold everything made before 2000, a move that kept the original fair contemporary while capturing collectors who buy across periods. Frieze New York followed in 2012, Los Angeles in 2019 and Seoul in 2022. Endeavor took a majority stake in the company in 2016, and in 2023 Frieze acquired The Armory Show in New York and EXPO Chicago, both of which continue under their own names. In 2025 the business changed hands again in a sale reported at $200 million. The fairs have absorbed all of this without visible change to the tents in the park.

10Kimler orada

British and European collectors in the greatest numbers, with substantial American and growing Asian attendance; museum curators and acquisition groups from across Europe; the London gallery scene in full; auction specialists working the October sales; artists, who attend this fair in larger numbers than most; and a very large general public across the weekend, for whom Frieze is the year's biggest paid contemporary exhibition.
