COUTURE is a buyers' show. Designer fine jewelry brands take suites and stands across the Wynn Las Vegas resort for five days, and the people they see are American and international retail buyers who have been through a qualification process before being issued a badge. It is not open to the public and there is no consumer ticket. The show opens with an evening reception on the Wednesday and runs full days through to a shorter Sunday.

The commercial function is straightforward: this is where independent designers and small houses place a year's production with the specialist retailers who carry them, and where those retailers decide which new names to take on. The COUTURE Design Awards, held on the Saturday evening at the Encore Theater, are the industry's principal design prize in the United States and carry categories by material and form as well as named honors and a people's choice award voted by text during the ceremony.

A social program runs alongside — the opening night reception, an after-hours event for the top badge tier, breakfasts and panels — and the show sits inside the wider Las Vegas jewelry week, when several much larger trade shows fill the city's convention halls at the same time. Emerald X, the events group, owns and operates it.

01Pourquoi c'est important

For designer fine jewelry, COUTURE is the market. The brands shown here are mostly independent and mostly too small to sustain their own retail networks, and a week at the Wynn determines what appears in specialist jewelers across North America for the following year. Buyers who cannot attend miss a season.

In our reading, its importance to a general calendar is indirect but real: it is one of the points at which what jewelry looks like is actually decided, several steps upstream of the shop window and further still from the red carpet. It also anchors the Las Vegas jewelry week, which is the largest concentration of the trade anywhere and turns a convention city into the center of the industry for six or seven days.

02La semaine environnante

Las Vegas jewelry week is one of the city's larger convention periods, and the effect is city-wide rather than confined to the Wynn: the Strip hotels fill, restaurant reservations tighten, and taxi and ride-hailing waits lengthen at the standard convention hours. Because the shows run concurrently at different properties, a lot of the week is spent moving up and down the Strip, which takes far longer than the map suggests.

For anyone not in the trade, the week is invisible. Nothing about COUTURE is public and there is no reason to plan a Las Vegas visit around it unless you hold a badge.

03Quand arriver

Buyers arrive Tuesday or Wednesday and stay through Saturday or Sunday. The opening night reception on Wednesday evening is the introduction and the Thursday and Friday are the working days; Saturday carries the awards; Sunday is short and thins out early. Exhibitors arrive two days ahead to set up.

04Où séjourner

The Wynn and Encore themselves, if rooms are available, because the show is inside the building and the walk between appointments is otherwise a taxi ride. The neighboring resorts on the north Strip are the next choice and are a short walk or a very slow drive. Off-Strip hotels are cheaper and cost you an hour a day in transit. Most exhibitors and many buyers book the show hotel a year ahead.

05Accès et hospitalité

Trade only. The organizer publishes buyer qualification requirements and registration is refused to anyone who does not meet them; there is no public admission, no consumer ticket and no press day open to general media. Badge tiers exist, and the top tier carries access to additional events including an after-hours reception. Exhibiting is by application through the organizer's sales team. The Design Awards ceremony is open to badge holders.

06Où se déroule l'activité sociale

Inside the Wynn: the exhibitor suites and salons during the day, the opening night reception, the Encore Theater on awards night, and the resort's restaurants and bars in between, which function as extended meeting rooms all week. Off site, the Strip's restaurants absorb buyer dinners, most of them hosted privately by brands.

07Comment s'y rendre

Aviation commercialeHarry Reid International (LAS) is fifteen to twenty-five minutes from the north Strip depending on traffic and is served from across North America and increasingly from Europe and Asia.
RailThere is no passenger rail service to Las Vegas.
VoitureInterstate 15 is the approach from Los Angeles, about four hours. Resort self-parking and valet are available; driving between Strip properties during a convention week is slower than walking short distances.
Aviation privéeHarry Reid's business-aviation terminals and North Las Vegas Airport both handle private traffic, and Las Vegas is one of the busiest business-aviation markets in the United States during convention weeks.
HélicoptèreCharter helicopter services operate from Harry Reid, mostly for tourism rather than transfers.

08Informations pratiques

Tenue vestimentaireAmerican trade-show business dress, which at this show means better tailoring and a great deal of jewelry; the awards evening on Saturday is cocktail dress. The building is heavily air-conditioned and the walk to it is not, so layers help in a Nevada June.
MétéoLas Vegas at the turn of May and June is hot and very dry, with daytime conditions that make outdoor walking uncomfortable by midday and evenings that stay warm. The entire show is indoors and connected. No station normals were sourced for this record.
Se déplacerStay in or next to the show hotel if you can. The Strip is slow to drive during convention weeks, the monorail serves only part of it, and ride-hailing pick-up at the large resorts involves long queues at the start and end of each show day.
HôtelsLas Vegas jewelry week is a genuine city-wide convention peak and rates rise accordingly. The show hotel is committed early to exhibitors; buyers should book as soon as registration opens. Off-Strip and airport hotels remain available late.
RestaurantsWynn and Encore restaurants are heavily used by show functions all week and need booking well ahead. The north Strip resorts have enough capacity but the better rooms fill; brand dinners take out a large share of the good tables.
Délais de réservationBuyer registration and qualification open several months ahead and should not be left late. Hotels three to six months ahead, and the show hotel earlier. Exhibitor applications run on the organizer's own annual cycle.
BilletsNo public tickets exist. Attendance requires a trade badge issued after buyer qualification; the organizer publishes the qualification criteria and an FAQ. Badge tiers determine access to the evening events.
HospitalitéThe organizer runs the opening night reception, an after-hours event limited to the top badge tier, and the Design Awards ceremony at the Encore Theater, all included with the appropriate badge. Brand hospitality — dinners, suites, client events — is private and by invitation. No prices are published for any of it.

09Historique

COUTURE grew out of the American jewelry trade's need for a show that separated designer work from the volume business, and it has been held at the Wynn since the resort's early years, with the Encore Theater hosting the design awards. Its scale is deliberately limited by the building: suites and salons rather than a convention floor, which is why the exhibitor list is a matter of selection rather than booth sales.

The show has been through several corporate owners as the American trade-show industry consolidated and is now operated by Emerald X. Its awards program has accumulated named honors over time, including prizes commemorating figures from the trade, and the ceremony has become the week's social center.

10Qui s'y trouve

Qualified retail buyers from independent jewelers, department stores and specialist e-commerce; designer and brand principals, many of whom staff their own suites; the American jewelry trade press; and the awards constituency of designers, judges and industry figures. There is no consumer audience and no collector audience in the sense that watch fairs have one.
