Courchevel Tourisme releases the winter events programme, including the show dates and villages, in the autumn before each season. The festival has run from mid-February into the first week of March in recent years - 13 February to 6 March in 2025 and across February and early March in 2026 - so the dates given estimate that window for 2027. Individual show evenings, teams and the season's theme are all still to be announced.

Across February and into the first days of March, Courchevel stages a competitive fireworks festival on the snow. Four teams, one per country, each get a single evening: they design a show to music, fire it over the snow front of one of the resort's four villages, and are judged against the others, with a winner announced at the end of the run. The 2026 line-up brought Super Power of Poland, Ardi of France, Kuma Fireworks of Canada and Fireworks Lieto of Italy, on a theme marking Courchevel's eightieth anniversary.

The setting does most of the work. Shows are fired from and over a ski slope at altitude, in cold dry air, with the pistes and the forest as the reflecting surface; the resort's tourist office puts attendance above 8,000 across the festival. Evenings begin around six with the resort's ski schools coming down the slope in a torchlit descent before the pyrotechnics start.

The four villages - Le Praz at 1,300 metres, Courchevel Village at 1,550, Moriond at 1,650 and Courchevel at 1,850 - take a show each, which is a deliberate piece of resort politics as much as programming: the festival moves the crowd down the mountain and gives the lower villages an evening that would otherwise belong entirely to 1850.

01Por qué es relevante

Courchevel in February is one of the most concentrated weeks of the Alpine winter, coinciding with French, British and other school holidays, and the resort's evening programme is thin by design - this is not a nightlife destination in the way Verbier or St. Anton are. The fireworks festival is the exception, and it is free. In our reading its importance is not artistic but civic: it is the one occasion in the Courchevel season that puts every kind of visitor, from chalet guests to day-trippers from the valley, on the same patch of snow at the same time, and it is the clearest example in this calendar of a resort using a public spectacle to hold a fragmented village together.

02La semana en torno al evento

February is Courchevel's peak: the French school holidays run through the month, the Trois Vallees lift system is at full load, and the resort is close to capacity. The festival sits inside that rather than interrupting it. Days are for skiing the largest linked ski area in the world; the shows begin after the lifts close and finish before dinner, which is precisely why they work as a family fixture. Around them the resort runs a broader winter programme - a ski mountaineering World Cup round at Le Praz in January, a weekly night ski-touring race, a theatre festival in late March, and concerts on the slopes in April. What is public is a great deal: the snow fronts, the torchlit descents, the village squares and the free shuttle buses that link the four villages and run late on show nights. What is not public is the private-chalet economy that defines the resort's reputation, and none of it is visible from the piste.

03Cuándo llegar

This is not an event to travel for on its own; it is a reason to choose a particular week within a Courchevel stay. Check the published show dates when the winter programme appears in the autumn and build a Saturday-to-Saturday week around two of them. Arrive on the changeover Saturday like everyone else and accept that the transfer from Moutiers or the airports is the price of the week.

04Dónde alojarse

Courchevel 1850 is the address, with the Croisette snow front, the altiport and the great majority of the resort's hotels and restaurants; it is also the most expensive place to sleep in the French Alps. Moriond, at 1,650, has the best afternoon sun and a growing set of hotels at a fraction of the 1850 rate. Courchevel Village at 1,550 is the practical family choice, and Le Praz at 1,300 is the old village, with the ski jumps from the 1992 Olympics, the most character and the shortest evenings of sun. All four are linked by lifts and by a free bus. The trade-off is straightforward: 1850 gives you the shops and the restaurants, the lower villages give you the same skiing for far less and a bus ride home.

05Acceso y hospitalidad

The shows are staged on the public snow fronts of the villages and no admission charge is published by the resort. There is no ticket, no grandstand and no hospitality tier; people watch from the piste, the village squares and the terraces of the bars and restaurants along the snow front, which is where a table is worth booking. Courchevel Tourisme publishes the schedule of show dates and villages before the season and its tourist offices confirm timings.

06Dónde tiene lugar la actividad social

On show nights, the snow front of whichever village is hosting - La Croisette at 1850, the Belvedere at Moriond, the front at Village, the square at Le Praz. Otherwise the resort's social life runs through the apres bars at the bottom of the pistes, the restaurants along the Rue du Rocher and the Jardin Alpin at 1850, and the mountain restaurants on the Saulire and Loze sides. Courchevel 1850 has an unusual density of serious kitchens for a ski resort, which shapes the evenings far more than any bar scene does.

07Cómo llegar

Aviación comercialChambery is about an hour and a half by road, Grenoble and Lyon two to two and a half hours, Geneva around two and a half. All four run heavy winter charter traffic and Saturday transfers are slow.
FerroviarioMoutiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains is the valley station, 45 minutes below the resort by road, served by TGV from Paris and by direct seasonal services from London. It is the best way in on a Saturday, when the airport road is at its worst.
AutomóvilThe A430 to Albertville then the N90 and the mountain road up from Moutiers, which is well maintained but has twenty-two hairpins and requires winter tires or chains. Parking in the villages is largely underground and should be reserved with accommodation.
Aviación privadaCourchevel Altiport sits directly above 1850 at 2,008 metres with a short, steeply sloped runway and no go-around; it takes light aircraft and helicopters only, in daylight and in good visibility, and pilots need a specific qualification. Chambery, Geneva and Lyon handle everything larger.
HelicópteroHelicopter transfer from Geneva, Chambery, Annecy and Courchevel's own altiport is an established route into the resort and is the standard alternative when the valley road is congested.

08Aspectos prácticos

VestimentaSki clothing. The shows are watched standing on snow at between 1,300 and 1,850 metres after dark in February, and there is nothing else to say about it. Most people come straight from the piste.
ClimaFebruary in Courchevel gives daytime highs around minus 2 to plus 2C at village level and overnight lows near minus 8 to minus 12C, with the resort's north-facing aspect and altitude giving it the most reliable snow in the Trois Vallees. Shows are weather-dependent and can be moved or cancelled for wind or heavy snowfall.
Cómo desplazarseThe free village shuttle buses are the way to reach whichever snow front is hosting, and they run later on show nights. Driving between the villages on a show evening is slower than the bus and parking is limited.
HotelesFebruary is the peak of the French Alpine season and Courchevel is its most expensive resort. Chalets and hotels at 1850 for the holiday weeks are committed a year ahead, often to returning guests; Moriond, Village and Le Praz hold availability later and cost substantially less. Saturday-to-Saturday stays are close to compulsory.
RestaurantesCourchevel 1850 carries more high-end restaurants than any other ski resort in Europe and they are fully booked through February; tables on the snow front on a show night are the hardest of all and should be reserved weeks ahead. The mountain restaurants across the Trois Vallees need lunch reservations in the holiday weeks.
Momento de la reservaAccommodation for February should be arranged the previous spring or summer. The festival's own show dates appear with the winter programme in the autumn, which is late for booking a specific week - most visitors fix the week first and check the schedule afterward.
EntradasNo ticket is required and no admission charge is published. Show dates, villages and timings are published by Courchevel Tourisme before the season and confirmed by its tourist offices.
HospitalidadThere is no organized hospitality programme attached to the festival. Restaurants and bars on the hosting snow front sell their own tables for the evening, and hotels arrange their guests' viewing informally.

09Historia

Courchevel was created from nothing after the Second World War - the resort dates its founding to 1946 and marked its eightieth anniversary as the theme of the 2026 festival - and was the first French resort planned as a purpose-built ski station, with the altiport carved into the mountain above 1850 and a village hierarchy running down the valley. The fireworks festival is a much more recent addition: the 2025 edition was billed as the twenty-second. It has grown from a single show into a competitive format with international entrants, a theme for each season and a judged result.

10Quién está ahí

Resort guests of every kind during the February holidays - French, British, Belgian, Dutch and Italian families in the main - together with day visitors from the Tarentaise valley, chalet and hotel guests at 1850, and the seasonal workforce. Because the shows are free and early in the evening, the crowd is broader and younger than anything else in the Courchevel season.
