The mountain season is mostly places rather than events — St. Moritz, Gstaad, Courchevel, Kitzbühel and Aspen fill from Christmas to Easter without a fixture to explain it — but a handful of weekends organise the winter. The Lauberhorn downhill at Wengen in mid-January and the Hahnenkamm at Kitzbühel a week later are the two races the sport travels for; the Winter X Games in Aspen fill the same fortnight in Colorado; the Engadin Skimarathon in March closes the Engadin season. White Turf and the Snow Polo World Cup, both on the frozen lake at St. Moritz, are listed under equestrian and polo but belong to the same fortnight.
Race weekends are free to watch from the mountain and ticketed in the finish areas; the resort's hotels are the constraint, booked the previous winter.
