The collector-car calendar has a shape of its own: Cavallino in Palm Beach and Rétromobile in Paris in the winter, The Amelia in March, Goodwood's Members' Meeting in April, the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on Lake Como in May, the Mille Miglia across Italy in June, the Festival of Speed in July, and then the year's center — Monterey Car Week and the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in mid-August, when the auction houses, the concours and the historic races put more important cars in one place than anywhere else. Salon Privé and the Goodwood Revival follow in September, Audrain in Newport in October.

Concours are ticketed and public; the auctions are open to view; the private events around Pebble Beach are the subject of much reporting and no invitations.
