Berkshire Hathaway's annual meeting is a corporate formality that grew into a three-day civic event, and since 2026 the company has given the weekend its own name, Owners' Day. The legal business — the vote on directors and shareholder proposals — convenes at two on Saturday afternoon and takes about as long as it sounds.

Doors at the CHI Health Center open at seven; a business update runs at 8.30; question sessions with the chief executive and operating managers run from 9.30 until one; and the exhibit hall, where Berkshire's subsidiaries sell to shareholders at discount, stays open until four. Questions come from shareholders drawn by lot at ten microphone positions and from a CNBC journalist selecting on behalf of those who cannot attend.

01Why it matters

It is the only gathering on this calendar where access is bought with a single share rather than a fee, an invitation or a title, and where the corridor conversation is between individual owners rather than institutions. It has also functioned for decades as a public seminar in capital allocation.

02The week around it

Omaha, a city of roughly 500,000, turns itself over to the weekend. Downtown hotels sell out months ahead, the exhibit hall becomes a temporary department store of Berkshire subsidiaries, and Nebraska Furniture Mart and Borsheims run extended discount periods either side.

03When to arrive

Arrive Thursday evening or Friday morning.

04Where to stay

Downtown Omaha, walkable to the arena, is the obvious base and the first to sell out; the Old Market district immediately south puts you among the restaurants. Midtown around Blackstone is quieter, the Dodge Street hotels are the usual fallback, and Council Bluffs across the river absorbs the overflow.

05Access and hospitality

Attendance requires a meeting credential, and a credential requires ownership of Berkshire stock. Credentials are mailed in advance; anyone holding through a broker can collect at Will Call on proof of ownership and photo identification. The credential admits its holder to every shareholder event of the weekend.

06Where the social activity happens

The exhibit hall on Friday afternoon is the most sociable part of the weekend and the easiest place to fall into conversation.

07Getting there

Commercial aviationEppley Airfield is 6 km from downtown, ten minutes by road, and is the only realistic gateway; the company's 2026 guide warned it is mid-expansion.
RailAmtrak's California Zephyr calls at Omaha overnight in each direction, a curiosity rather than an option.
CarInterstates 80 and 29 meet at Omaha; four hours from Kansas City, eight from Chicago.
Private aviationEppley handles business aviation and Millard takes smaller traffic.

08Practicalities

DressThe company's own guide states that the dress code is casual, and it is meant literally: the arena is full of shirtsleeves.
WeatherThe shareholders guide tells attendees to expect sunshine with highs of roughly 20 to 22 Celsius and an average low near 7C.
Getting aroundShuttles run between designated hotels, the arena, Nebraska Furniture Mart and Borsheims.
HotelsOmaha's hotel stock is small relative to demand and downtown sells out roughly a year ahead, with rates rising across the city.
RestaurantsThe Old Market and downtown restaurants are booked solid across the weekend, with steakhouses the hardest tables in the city.
Reservation timingDowntown rooms are commonly booked a year ahead, often at the end of the previous meeting.
TicketsThere is no ticket for sale. A credential is issued to shareholders and is mandatory for the arena and the shopping events.
HospitalityNone is offered or sold. The weekend's hospitality is the company's own, and all of it is open to credential holders.

09History

Berkshire's annual meetings were once small enough for a company cafeteria in Omaha.

10Who is there

Individual shareholders and their families, many returning annually; investment club and value-investing groups; fund managers and analysts; students on university finance trips; subsidiary employees; and a large accredited press contingent.
