The Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week distributes itself across Newport rather than occupying a single field. The Audrain Automobile Museum on Bellevue Avenue is the operational base; Rough Point, Doris Duke's former estate at the end of the peninsula, hosts a hat luncheon on the Thursday and a day-long gathering on the Friday; the International Tennis Hall of Fame houses the week's village and the Broad Arrow auction; and Fort Adams, the granite fortification on the harbor, takes the Cars and Coffee, the supercar concours on the Saturday and the concours itself on the Sunday.

The Concours d'Elegance, presented by A. Lange & Söhne, fields more than 180 cars across a dozen-plus classes running from the early 1900s to 1980, judged on a theme the organizer describes as history, luxury and sport. First-in-class winners compete for the Willie K. Vanderbilt Trophy, and a Thirty Under 30 class exists specifically to bring younger owners onto the field. The selection committee, led by Donald Osborne and Nic Waller, assembles the entry through the year.

Around the judging the week runs a road tour starting from Second Beach, seminars in a theater at the village, a whisky evening on the waterfront, a wine tasting, a gala, and a comedy show. It is more Newport social week than car show, and that is the intention.

01Por qué es relevante

The Newport concours is the youngest of the significant American concours and the fastest to establish itself, winning Motoring Event of the Year at the International Historic Motoring Awards in 2025. It closes the North American collector-car year the way Rétromobile opens the European one, and its October date gives it the last major auction of the domestic season.

In our reading, its real advantage is the town. Newport was where American motoring society began — the first Vanderbilt Cup trophy was awarded here in 1900 — and the mansions along Bellevue Avenue are not a backdrop borrowed for a weekend but the reason the cars make sense in the place. Very few concours have a setting with that kind of continuity, and Audrain has used it deliberately by putting events inside the houses rather than only on lawns.

02La semana en torno al evento

Newport in early October is at its best and nearly empty by summer standards — the yachting season is winding down, the leaves are turning inland, and the town has its restaurants back. The concours week fills the hotels but does not overwhelm the streets. Bellevue Avenue carries most of the visible activity, with cars parked outside the mansions and the museum open all week; Thames Street and the harbor front carry the evenings. Fort Adams is a working state park across the harbor and the drive or shuttle over Ocean Drive on the Sunday morning is part of the experience.

The Newport International Boat Show falls in mid-September, a few weeks earlier, so anyone building a Rhode Island autumn can stack the two.

03Cuándo llegar

Arrive Wednesday evening or Thursday morning and stay through Sunday. Thursday and Friday are the sociable days — the luncheon, the gathering at Rough Point, the auction preview and the auction — and Saturday is the supercar concours and the tour. Sunday is the concours and then departure. A short version is Friday to Sunday. Leaving Sunday evening is easy; the roads off Aquidneck Island empty quickly.

04Dónde alojarse

Downtown Newport, around Thames Street and the harbor, puts you in walking distance of the restaurants and a short drive from everything else; the hotels here are the busiest during the week. Bellevue Avenue and the Ocean Drive side are quieter, closer to the museum and Fort Adams, and more expensive. Middletown, immediately north, has ordinary hotel stock at ordinary prices and is ten minutes from town. Providence, forty minutes away, is a real fallback with full capacity.

05Acceso y hospitalidad

Everything is ticketed and sold to the public, event by event, through the organizer. The published ticket list includes an all-inclusive VIP ticket covering the week, an all-inclusive ticket with concours general admission, two-day concours general admission and VIP tickets, and individual tickets for the Sunday concours, the Saturday supercar concours, the Friday gathering, the hat luncheon, the gala, the whisky and wine evenings and the seminars. Auction preview access is open during the week and bidding requires registration with Broad Arrow. Entering a car is by application to the selection committee. We did not verify current prices and quote none.

06Dónde tiene lugar la actividad social

Rough Point on the Thursday and Friday is the week's social center, with the luncheon and the gathering held on the grounds of a Bellevue Avenue house. The Motor Week Village at the International Tennis Hall of Fame is the daytime meeting place and is where the auction and the seminars happen. In the evenings the waterfront bars and restaurants on Thames Street and Bowen's Wharf take the crowd, along with the organizer's own harbor-front receptions. The Audrain museum on Bellevue Avenue is open all week and is free to walk past and cheap to enter.

07Cómo llegar

Aviación comercialT.F. Green in Providence (PVD) is about forty minutes and is the practical airport. Boston Logan (BOS) is roughly ninety minutes; New York's airports are three to four hours.
FerroviarioAmtrak's Northeast Corridor serves Providence and Kingston, each about forty minutes from Newport by road, with no rail link onto Aquidneck Island.
AutomóvilNewport is reached by the Pell Bridge from Jamestown or from the north through Portsmouth. Traffic is manageable in October; parking downtown and at Fort Adams is the constraint and the organizer runs shuttles between venues.
Aviación privadaNewport State Airport (UUU) takes light aircraft only. Quonset State (OQU) and T.F. Green handle business jets; Boston and Westchester take the largest.
HelicópteroCharter services operate from New York and Boston to Newport during the week; Newport State Airport is the usual landing point.
MarinasNewport is one of the great American yachting harbors, with Newport Shipyard, Bannister's Wharf, Bowen's Wharf and Goat Island offering transient berths and megayacht capacity. Arriving by sea is entirely normal here and October is a quiet month for berths.

08Aspectos prácticos

VestimentaNew England autumn coastal: blazers, knitwear, dresses with a coat, and shoes that work on wet grass at Fort Adams. The hat luncheon is exactly what it sounds like and is the most dressed event of the week; the gala is black tie. Wind off the harbor makes the Sunday colder than the forecast.
ClimaEarly October in Newport is cool, bright and windy, with daytime conditions that suit standing outdoors and evenings that require a coat. Coastal storms are possible and Fort Adams is fully exposed to the harbor. No station normals were sourced for this record.
Cómo desplazarseThe week is spread across the peninsula and the organizer runs shuttles between the museum, the village and Fort Adams; using them is easier than parking. Ride-hailing works in Newport but thins late at night. Ocean Drive to Fort Adams is worth driving once in daylight.
HotelesNewport's hotel stock is small for the demand this week generates and the town is otherwise winding down from the summer season, so rates hold up. Book two to four months ahead for downtown and Bellevue Avenue; Middletown and Portsmouth stay available longer.
RestaurantesOctober is a good month to eat in Newport, with the summer crush gone, but the concours week fills the better tables from Thursday. Reserve for the Friday and Saturday. Several restaurants host event functions during the week, which removes capacity.
Momento de la reservaHotels two to four months ahead. Tickets go on sale in early summer, with the all-inclusive and VIP tiers and the luncheon and gala selling out first. Restaurant tables two to three weeks ahead for the weekend.
EntradasPublic sale, event by event, through the organizer's site: all-inclusive VIP and all-inclusive week tickets, two-day concours general admission and VIP tickets, and single tickets for the Sunday concours, the Saturday supercar concours, the Friday gathering, the hat luncheon, the gala, the waterfront tastings, the yoga session and the seminars. The Audrain Automobile Museum is separately open to the public throughout.
HospitalidadThe organizer's VIP tiers function as the hospitality program, covering multiple events across the week with reserved access. A. Lange & Söhne presents the concours and other partners present individual events; their own hospitality is by invitation. Broad Arrow runs bidder and consignor hospitality around the sale. No prices verified.

09Historia

The Audrain Automobile Museum opened on Bellevue Avenue in 2014, with a collection of several hundred cars shown in rotating exhibitions and a stated ambition to be closer to an art museum than a car museum. The concours and motor week followed in 2019, built around the museum and the Newport mansions.

The town's automotive history goes back much further. Willie K. Vanderbilt and his circle imported cars to Newport at the turn of the twentieth century and raced them at a nearby track, with the first Vanderbilt Cup trophy awarded on 6 September 1900; the concours' senior award still carries his name. Newport was also the site of the first US Open golf championship and the first New York Yacht Club annual regatta, which is the kind of civic history that gives a young event an inherited setting.

10Quién está ahí

American collectors, weighted to the Northeast; the Audrain museum's own membership; auction consignors and bidders; specialist dealers and restorers; motoring media and podcasters, who have an unusually visible role in this event's programming; and a Newport social crowd that attends the luncheons and evenings whether or not it cares about cars. The Thirty Under 30 class and the podcast programming pull in a noticeably younger audience than most concours.
