Dates ConfirmedRound 23 and the final round of the 2026 Formula 1 season, per Formula 1's official calendar, with the race on Sunday 6 December. Yas Marina Circuit was selling 2026 tickets in September 2026. ExpectedThe 2027 Formula 1 calendar had not been published as of 6 September 2026 and the circuit had not announced 2027 dates. Estimated from the recent pattern: Abu Dhabi holds the contractual right to the season finale through 2030 and has closed the season on the first weekend of December in 2024, 2025 and 2026, which in 2027 gives a race on Sunday 5 December. Earlier editions were held in late November, so this is a pattern rather than a rule.

Yas Marina Circuit sits on reclaimed land on Yas Island, twenty minutes from Abu Dhabi's airport and half an hour from the city. It opened in 2009 with Formula 1's first day-night race, starting in the late afternoon so the last hour runs under floodlight, and the format has been kept since. The lap is 5.281 kilometers and was reworked in 2021, when the slow sequence after the hotel and the tight corners around the marina were opened out to encourage overtaking, which they did.

The set pieces are architectural. A hotel spans the track between turns thirteen and fourteen, its shell wrapped in a lighting grid, and a marina sits inside the circuit, so boats berth within the lap. The rest of the island is a purpose-built entertainment district. As the season's last round, the weekend also carries the paddock's end-of-year business.

01Why it matters

The finale is a structural advantage and Abu Dhabi has secured it contractually, holding the right to the final race of the season through 2030 under an agreement signed in December 2021. That guarantees a share of every championship's ending, and means contracts, launches and the sport's own year-end business land in the same three days. In our reading it is the calendar's most efficiently produced Grand Prix rather than its most atmospheric: easy, warm and comfortable, and lacking the friction that makes Monaco and Spa memorable.

02The week around it

Yas Island shifts into event mode from midweek, with the island's hotels taken almost entirely by teams, sponsors and ticket holders. The city itself is barely disrupted: the circuit is a permanent facility reached by highway, so there are no street closures. The surrounding programme is substantial and mostly public, with concert nights on the island and the Saadiyat museums running their winter exhibitions in the same weeks.

03When to arrive

Arrive Wednesday or Thursday. Practice starts Friday and the concert programme usually begins the same evening, so a Thursday arrival leaves a day for Saadiyat's museums or the coast. Leave Monday or later; the week after the finale is among the quietest in the Gulf calendar.

04Where to stay

Yas Island is the circuit-side answer, with hotels within walking distance of the gates, including the one that spans the track. It is convenient and self-contained, which some visitors like and others find airless. The Corniche and city center put you among Abu Dhabi's ordinary life, twenty-five minutes away; Saadiyat is the beach-and-museum option; Dubai is viable at ninety minutes, comfortable on Friday and a mistake on Sunday night.

05Access and hospitality

Tickets are sold by the circuit and promoter through official channels, in reserved grandstands, general admission areas and premium club and suite products, with Formula 1's Paddock Club at the top. The after-race concert programme has traditionally been included with race tickets rather than sold separately. Boats berthed in the marina inside the circuit form a distinct viewing tier arranged through the marina. Compared with Monaco or Las Vegas this is an accessible event.

06Where the social activity happens

On Yas Island, the hotel bars and terraces around the marina, the beach club on the north shore and the concert grounds. In the city, the Corniche hotels and their restaurants take the corporate entertaining, and Saadiyat's beach clubs and museum cafes hold the daytime. Alcohol is served in licensed hotels and venues rather than generally, which concentrates the evening in a predictable set of places.

07Getting there

Commercial aviationZayed International (AUH) is roughly fifteen minutes from the circuit. Dubai International and Al Maktoum are alternatives about ninety minutes and an hour away by road.
RailThere is no established passenger rail to Yas Island. The UAE's Etihad Rail passenger network has been announced; check whether services are running before relying on them.
CarYas Island is reached by highway from the airport and the city with no street closures, since the circuit is permanent. Parking at the venue is organized and extensive.
Private aviationAl Bateen Executive Airport sits inside the city and is one of few dedicated business-aviation airports in a regional capital; Zayed International also handles private movements.
HelicopterTransfers operate between Abu Dhabi and Dubai and along the coast; there is no public helicopter access to the circuit.
MarinasYas Marina lies inside the circuit and is the distinguishing berth of the weekend, with boats watching from within the lap. Berths are contracted far in advance.

08Practicalities

DressWarm-weather clothing with something for the evening, when the temperature drops noticeably after sunset. Abu Dhabi is more conservative than Dubai in public dress, and modest clothing away from hotels and beaches is expected.
WeatherEarly December is the best weather of the Gulf year: dry, warm and clear by day, cooling through the evening as the race runs into the floodlights. Rain is very unusual and humidity is far lower than in summer, which is the main reason the finale sits where it does.
Getting aroundEverything is done by road, and the absence of street closures makes this the least complicated Grand Prix to move around. Allow for heavy outbound traffic from Yas Island after the race and concerts, and for a slow highway to Dubai on Sunday night.
HotelsYas Island's hotels are the constrained resource and sell out early at peak-of-year rates with minimum stays. The city, Saadiyat and the airport corridor have depth and remain obtainable closer in; early December is high season across the emirate for weather reasons alone.
RestaurantsRestaurant supply on Yas Island is finite and fully booked across the weekend; the city and Saadiyat have far more capacity twenty-five minutes away. Licensed venues are concentrated in hotels, so dinner planning is more constrained than the size of the city suggests.
Reservation timingYas Island hotels from the previous spring; city hotels two to three months ahead; restaurants three to four weeks; grandstands and hospitality from the moment tickets open. Marina berths are contracted a long way ahead.
TicketsSold through the circuit and promoter's official channels, in grandstands, general admission areas and premium products, with three-day and single-day options. The after-race concert programme has traditionally been included with race tickets. Category names should be checked directly.
HospitalityFormula 1's Paddock Club operates at Yas Marina, and the circuit sells its own suite, club and lounge products. Marina berths inside the circuit are arranged through the marina rather than the promoter and function as a hospitality tier of their own.

09History

The race was created as part of Abu Dhabi's development of Yas Island in the late 2000s, with the circuit designed by Hermann Tilke and the first Grand Prix run in 2009. It has closed the season in most years since and has decided several championships, including the 2021 title in circumstances that produced an FIA investigation and a change in race-control procedure. The 2021 reconfiguration was a response to years of criticism that the layout produced processions: three sections were rebuilt and the hairpin sequence after the hotel was removed.

10Who is there

Gulf residents and nationals in large numbers, European visitors making a warm-weather end-of-season trip, teams and sponsors conducting year-end business, sovereign and corporate hosts entertaining in the suites, and boat owners using the circuit marina.
