Une page de destination est organisée autour du temps : quand le lieu est incontournable, quels événements le rendent tel, et comment il évolue au fil de l'année — puis la géographie pratique (aéroports, marinas, quartiers, zones hôtelières).
The Garonne River bends into a crescent at Bordeaux, in southwestern France — the Port de la Lune shape that gave the eighteenth-century city its layout and, in 2007, its UNESCO World Heritage listing. About 268,000 people live in the city proper and roughly 1.4 million across the metro area, France's sixth-largest. The surrounding region is the reference point for fine wine worldwide, with the Médoc, Saint-Émilion, Graves and Sauternes appellations all within day-trip distance.
Bordeaux's own calendar follows the wine trade's rhythm rather than a resort's or a capital's. Its most distinctive fixture is En Primeur week each spring, when the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux opens barrel samples of the previous vintage to négociants, critics and importers who score it months before bottling. The rest of the year runs on the vines' schedule: growth through spring and summer, harvest from September, and a quiet trade winter as the new vintage ages.

03Pourquoi c'est important
Bordeaux concentrates the wine trade's own calendar most visibly during En Primeur week, when the city's hotels fill with the négociants, critics and importers who help set prices for a vintage still in barrel. In our reading, Bordeaux's real April audience is the trade rather than the traveler — the châteaux's more public hospitality runs on a separate calendar of its own.

Quartiers
Quartiers d'hôtels
City-center hotels near the quays and the Golden Triangle are the main visitor address for both trade and tourist visits. Château hotels scattered among the vineyards offer a separate, more rural register for wine-focused stays outside the city itself.
Quartiers gastronomiques
Chartrons and Saint-Pierre carry the greatest density of restaurants. The quayside near Place de la Bourse, with its Miroir d'Eau reflecting pool, is the city's principal public gathering point rather than a dining district as such.
Institutions culturelles
Commerce
The Golden Triangle and rue Sainte-Catherine, one of Europe's longest pedestrian shopping streets, carry mainstream and luxury retail; Chartrons holds the city's antique dealers and wine merchants.
08Comment le lieu évolue
Bordeaux moves from a quiet winter civic rhythm to April's En Primeur trade surge, a summer tourist season oriented toward the coast, and a working harvest season across the appellations in September and October.
09Historique
Bordeaux began as the Celtic and later Roman port of Burdigala. Eleanor of Aquitaine's marriage to Henry II of England in 1152 placed the region under English rule for three centuries and built the wine trade with England that gave claret its name. The city's eighteenth-century golden age made it France's busiest port and, briefly, the world's second-busiest after London, financed by the wine and colonial trade that also built the Port de la Lune's crescent of stone facades. En Primeur, selling wine as a future before bottling, developed as a way for châteaux to fund each vintage. UNESCO listed the historic center in 2007, and the Cité du Vin, opened in 2016, marked a reinvestment in the city's wine identity.
