Collectors and the specialist dealers and restorers who serve them, the auction houses that hold their sales beside the concours, the marque clubs, the motoring press, and a very large public: the Goodwood weekends draw six-figure attendances and Monterey Car Week fills the peninsula. The Revival and the Members' Meeting are dressed and raced; Villa d'Este and Pebble Beach are judged; Rétromobile and the Amelia are shown. The people who follow all of them are few; the people who follow one are many.

The cars connect them. A car that wins at Villa d'Este in May is on the lawn at Pebble Beach in August; the auction houses (Bonhams, RM Sotheby's, Gooding and their competitors) sell beside each of the major concours in turn; the restorers' calendars are set by the judging dates. Goodwood's three fixtures give the circuit its British spine; Monterey gives it its American peak; Villa d'Este on Lake Como and the Mille Miglia through Italy give it its spring. Cavallino in Florida in January and Rétromobile in Paris in February open the year; Audrain in Newport in October closes it.

Cavallino Classic in Florida in the second half of January and Rétromobile in Paris at the turn of January and February. The Amelia in Florida in March. The Goodwood Members' Meeting in April. The Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on Lake Como in the last week of May, the Mille Miglia in June, the London Concours in June. The Goodwood Festival of Speed in mid-July. Monterey Car Week in the third week of August, from the auctions and the Quail to the Pebble Beach Concours on the Sunday. Salon Privé at Blenheim Palace at the turn of August and September, the Goodwood Revival in September, and the Audrain Newport Concours in the first week of October.

Monterey Car Week is the stop that stands alone: a week from the Tuesday to the Sunday covers the auctions, the Quail on the Friday, the Laguna Seca historics and the concours, and the peninsula's hotels are booked a year ahead at rates the organizers do not set. Villa d'Este in May is the finest single day; its Saturday is by invitation and its Sunday, at Villa Erba, is public. The Goodwood weekends sell tickets to the public in advance and sell out.

Villa d'Este shares its weekend with Cannes' final days and the Chelsea Flower Show. The Festival of Speed has coincided with Wimbledon's second week and the Open Championship. Monterey Car Week falls in the same week as the Salzburg and Bayreuth festivals' final weeks, the Hampton Classic's opening and the Palio's second running. The Revival coincides with the Cannes Yachting Festival and New York Fashion Week; Audrain with the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe weekend and the Dunhill Links.
